New ipad today. Which apps should I definitely get?
My ipad is arriving today. Am spectacularly excited, as you would expect!
Any new, intriguing, fun apps I should look out for? Not looking for the usual stuff...just any unusual little apps that may be fun. I like photography so will be looking for photo editing software etc too. Thanks! |

If you have Sky TV then I highly recommend the Sky+ app. It is the app I use the most. Beyond that, get the iplayer/itv player/4od etc apps.

Sky News is a great App, and I've recently discovered flip board which I think is fantastic, a great way to collate all the news items your interested in, into one place.

I am sorry, I don't know the name of it but my DIL has a free app that can tell what a song or piece of music is called.
I wanted to know what the music over the opening credits of The Discovery Channels 'North America' was. She pointed her phone at the screen and even with the narrator err, narrating, she was able to tell me what the music was. Genius. |

Adobe Photoshop Express and Adobe Ideas are a couple of great free apps.
Outcolor is £1.49 and imo worth the money if you like messing about with photographs. |

Depends on what you want to use it for?
Chrome browser is a useful alternative to Safari, it appears to load web pages that little bit more quickly and smoothly. VEVO HD - Useful if you want to catch the latest videos in HD. Sky Go - If you have sky and the premium channels then this can be a god send for when you are on the move. More or less mirrors your sky subscription on the move. iPlayer/4oD/ITVplayer/5 On Demand - Same as above really but for the relevant channels. Facebook/Twitter - Great apps for the iPad best of any platform if I am honest with you, they are more full featured and designed for a tablet when you compare against the fragmented native android versions. Zeebox - An interesting second screen application that integrates with your facebook and twitter it then follows social media based around the tv show you are watching at that moment. It can also control your SkyHD box in a similar manner to Sky+. Science360 - A good app with a range of videos on various things science related. Make sure you are connect to wifi for this as it well can stutter if using cellular. Google - I use this term broadly as all the google made apps have a use on an iPad especially Gmail, Google Search and Currents (a newsreader in essence). eBay - this is great on the iPad much better than viewing it on the website I feel, lots of options in it and links easily with paypal (thought the app). StumbleUpon - if you get bored this is a great way to randomly browse websites, get yourself an account and setup your preferences and it will generate sites related to your interests. Pulse News Reader - One of the best news applications on both Android and iOS, register your email or sign in with facebook, you can then add your sources from an extensive list of sites. Looks great on the ipad. Fotopedia - there is a suite of apps relating to different countries and themes. Essentially its a collection of high res photos which look stunning on a high res display. There is about 13 individual photopedia apps which are updated frequently with new images. Evernote - Probably one of my favourite apps purely because the desktop to phone/tablet experience is seamless. You produce a quick note on your phone and within seconds it will be available to view on your desktop or your ipad. Available for most platforms I believe. Star/Solar Walk - One of these applications is free I forget which but as it says it allows you to browse the night sky from this app. Skype - great application well designed for most platforms in fact. Works a treat/ BBC/Sky/Bloomberg/AP News - Assorted applications which by and large do what they say on the tin. BBC tends to focus on delivering the news to you in a readable format (test based) where as Sky focuses more on Video and other media. Both well designed apps. Dropbox - If you have it on your desktop then it should need no explaining. Tune in Radio - This has to be one of the best radio apps on the apps store, it is free and lists thousands of radio stations one which will definitely peak your interest. Lists most if not all of the major national and local radio stations in the UK. TVCatchup - A free app basically gives you freeview on the move. Pocket - Basically a bookmarking app which operates via extensions for Firefox and Chrome allowing you to save sites for reading later. Free to use and operate. This should do you for now I think.....I have more but well I don't have all night

I bought a new ipad a couple of weeks ago and have had great fun discovering new apps!
Paper - if you're into sketching is brilliant Zite - lets you customise what news you are interested in. Bejewelled Luxor FB Scrabble (although the new update isn't very good) Uno |

Thank you so much everyone. Loads and loads ideas of apps I can get.
Have got quite a few games but there are lots of things here which I wouldn't have thought of. Shall definitely look into the sky at night one, some of the tv catchup and the photography ones too. Am very very much in love with my iPad. |
