Is there anyay NTL would install broadband for a student house and have a smaller contract, ie until term ends.

We are an existing NTL TV customer

Would they be willing to do it?

The ntl@uni service is for students that have access to ntl: in their halls of res. ntl: do offer shorter contracts for students, im on one - I think in all cases though you still have to be tied with them for 9 months.

I think NTL normally only offer the 9 month contract during september and october, but you could still try to get one.

If you are forced into a longer contract than you want then signup for the minimum package on each of the services (tv, phone and broadband) and then ask them to be upgraded. Because you have the kit already and ntl only need to change the settings you only need to stay on the higher package for 30 days. The only thing to beware of if you do that is that a the pace STBs will not support more than 1Gbps internet (ntl's new basic package), so make sure you get a samsung if you're going to upgrade to a higher speed.

Dependant on Franchise areas - Original NTL areas (e.g. Nottingham) use a seperate cable modem which needs an installer to install.

Are you sure the basic is 1Gbps? That's faster than most peoples Ethernet - i think you meant 1Mbps!

he does mean 1mbps, many people often get confused, the older pace boxes have a maximum speed of 1mbps so you may need a samsung stb or an sacm is what he means.

yeah, sorry, I meant 1Mbps. I've been talking about upgrading some kit to gigabit ethernet though and made a typo.
