Come on, it's not hard : one inch is about 2,5 centimetres . How it can be so hard?!

Just think of a standard one-foot ruler = 30 cm.

it isn't it was just poor communication

It's must be so embarrassing to fail on that sort of thing.

I swear that if in some insane parallel universe I ended up on the Apprentice I would swot up weights/measures/conversions etc like nobody's business and get family/friends to randomly grill me on it so I'd be prepared for that at least!

They are supposed to be so talented. I really think its been created just to look good in TV, so people can say :" how they can be so daft?!"

I don't think it was THAT stupid and it really depends on what you were taught and what you use on a daily basis. My husband asked me what an ounce was (English not his native language) and I couldn't even guess how many mls an oz is. I have never used them and if someone else said confidently "an ounce is 12mls", and I didn't have google available, I would trust them and go with it.

I blame the heat of Dubai....some people cannot think clearly in the heat. Maybe that's what happened to cutey Kurt.

A litre of water is a pint and three-quarters and weighs one kilogram.

A pint of water is 20 fluid ounces.

But Kurt is native British and should has known things like that.

Clearly none of them watched Jimbo and the Jet Set when they were younger.

Hmm I certainly wouldn't mind being in the position of personally asking Kurt 'how it could be so hard'

Beards are normally an instant no-no for me, but there's just something about those blue eyes... and the forlorn look on his face when he realised what a fundamentally silly twpsyn he'd been over the maths!!

It was stupidity, arrogance and lack of concentration

Particularly as every ruler shows 12 inches on one side and a slightly smaller gauge showing 30cms on the other.

Think Kurt's days are numbered the juice shambles and now this. I think LAS wants him in the final 3

I thought it was really stupid, a 30cm ruler is one ft everyone had one of these. Not only that common sense should tell you 12cm if much too small.

Bear in mind, though, that Kurt's error was relatively minor. It cost the team some time and (after some haggling) 28 dirhams - which is about a fiver. They lost by £88.

Ultimately, Zee would have won if he hadn't spent the entire day insisting that oud was perfume. While his mistake in confusing oud and oudh was understandable, surely someone should have worked out that 'standard size' and 'mahogany' had to refer to something else?

Natalie didn't say anything either. The conversion was all mixed up but I think they were simply not thinking straight at the time.
Kurt was honourable to own up to his mistake in the Boardroom. He is fast becoming one of my favourites along with Alex.
I have gone way off Leah for starting out on the task in such a negative manner. I would have given Zee another chance and got rid of Leah.

I agree with what people are saying, but I'm in my 30s and not once in my years of education was the imperial system ever used or taught. I was taught 100% metric. It's only in this country that we live in a confused duel system. I mainly use metric, except for driving miles and inches.

The metric system is so much easier being based around multilples of 10 100 and 1000.

However even though I have no clue how many inches are in a yard, some of it is common sence.

Indeed I am surprised the younger generation ever know what 1/4 pound of cheese is, or how many of whatever in metric make a foot. We were taught at the time of the change, and had 28 people with imperial maths books, while 2 people sat in a corner on their own working with the 2 new metric versions, and their own answer book..........its a wonder people can still use both systems at all.

Agree with both your and johnhugh's comments. I was also brought up learning a bit of both, with the changeover from gallons to litres occurring during my childhood. To be honest, Kurt made a mistake that seems silly in isolation but I can see how it happens under pressure. That neither Zee nor Natalie picked up on it was equally bad.

Still, it was a comedy moment when Nick unfurled the mini version in the boardroom.

The quote of 10 dirham should've had their alarms ringing, but they were all woop-di-doo what a bargain!

I did laugh at them haggling it down to 28 dirham later though.

Yes, you're quite right about that - £2 for a full-size flag, really? - but then common sense seems to go out of the window rather a lot on these tasks, doesn't it? It's that old saying about common sense being surprisingly uncommon, isn't it?

But mls are liquid and ounces are solid so that would be very difficult.

They are " the best out of thousands applicants" . Three very talented people didn't know it, strange.
