Erm, 'co-wrote'. Bernie Taupin was chief lyricist back then...

The lyricists are nt really that important.... Elton and the music is the real power behind all that success,
just like Andy Webber was the real power behind all those musicals.

To think that Elton wrote all those 22 songs in 2 days is incredible.
Wonder if that hotel has put up a plaque anywhere ?

Amazingly Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics in two and a half weeks and even more incredibly Elton John composed most of the music in three days while staying at the Pink Flamingo Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
Apparently his motivation for recording in Jamaica was due to the Rolling Stones having recently recorded Goats Head Soup on the island.

I hadn't listened to Elton in a very long time but then I stumbled across 2013's The Diving Board and it's up there with his early 70s albums IMO. It also prompted to revisit some of those 70s albums and listening to the 40th anniversary (remastered) edition of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road i'd forgotten how much of a tour de force that album was.
