At the hospital, Joey has been taken into intensive care after his fall from the window and the nurse tells Alice that he is in a coma and they don't know when he will wake up. Upset, Alice cries and sees Lauren- who has turned a deathly yellow. When Alice asks her why her skin has gone strange, Lauren dismisses this and rushes to Joey's side, shocked to see him on a life support. Lauren declares her love for him but he doesn't budge and pulls out a flask from her jacket containing vodka- Alice tries to stop her from drinking but her cousin angrily lashes out at her, causing Alice's cheek to bleed.

At the Vic, Alfie tries to keep everyone calm about Joey and offers drinks to everyone to take their minds off recent events. Janine makes an insensitive comment about Joey and is surprised to see Michael agree. The two converse as though nothing has happened but as Janine leaves, she hands her husband a piece of paper- confirming the court order that she has applied for to take custody of Scarlett. Michael tries to turn to Alfie but he has no sympathy for his cousin, reminding him of what he said to Michael on his and Janine's wedding day- that Michael will get what he deserves. Peter and Lucy then walk into the Vic where Poppy and Fatboy are sitting and they tell the Beale twins about Joey's accident- Lucy insists that they go to the hospital.

At the bar, Cora is having a drink thinking about her family's issues and decides that the time has come to tell Tanya that she has to make a decision about Max and about Lauren's drinking. Roxy offers her a penny for her thoughts but Cora rudely
tells her to mind her own business. Affronted, Roxy has a go at the older woman, giving her some home truths- that her daughter is living under her mother's formidable shadow and that even though Lauren has a serious drink problem, Cora keeps chugging drink after drink down her throat- "Your liver's probably as wrinkled as Mo Harris on a good day". Cora is very offended and Alfie breaks the two women up. However, Roxy has given Cora some food for thought but when she goes home, Abi tells her that Tanya is at the hospital.

Lucy arrives with Peter in tow and rushes to Joey's bedside and is upset to learn that he is comatose. An ill Lauren insists that her ex- best friend keep away from him and Alice and Peter break up the bickering pair. He notices that Alice is bleeding and she tells him that Lauren hit her, but that she is ill and didn't know what she was doing. Peter wipes her cheek clean and realising that he hasn't properly introduced himself, does so. Peter tells Alice that he and Lauren were close and is distraught that she is in such a bad place but is surprised when Alice puts him in a good mood.

In an adjacent room, Kirsty is also on a bed after Lauren knocked her over and is devastated when she discovers that she has lost the baby. Tanya coldly feels sorry for her but as the two chat, they develop a respect for each other. Tanya and Kirsty bond over Max and Tanya once again offers her condolences, genuinely this time. Kirsty thanks her but the good mood is ruined when Kirsty lets slip a vital piece of information.

It is the morning after the night before and Tanya watches from her upstairs window as Max helps a discharged Kirsty out of a taxi. A disgusted Tanya turns away as she gets Oscar ready for school- but is too distracted by Kirsty's revelation to realise that she is adding milk to his toast. Cora can tell that Tanya is distracted and tries to tell her what Roxy mentioned, but Tanya won't hear it and she takes Oscar to school while Cora continues to try to get through to Tanya.

Joey is still in a comatose state and Lucy is by his bedside. At the Beale house, Ian notices that Lucy is spending too much time away from the businesses and returns to the cafe, pleased to be behind the counter again. However, his good mood soon ends when Janine wants to know why he is there and not at Scarlett's, which her money helped pay for- Ian tries to reason with her but she ruthlessly tells him that if he pulls a stunt like this again, she will take back every last penny as she needs all the money she can get to secure custody of her daughter. A scared Ian agrees and, after confiding in Denise, she tells Janine to reconsider- which she doesn't.

Denise tells a concerned Peter but he is all too aware that his father's pride will stop him from listening to Janine. He wants to see Ian but is stopped from doing so when he sees Lauren in such a terrible state. She is drunk once more and moans about Lucy being at Joey's side so he takes her to Max- however, he instantly blames Peter for the situation; he explains that Lauren has a drink problem though he denies it and attempts to threaten an unperturbed Peter.

At Booty's, Tanya is distracted by her family problems and gets a manicure completely wrong- Poppy tries to talk to her and suggests that Tanya take some time off- she refuses but angrily storms off when a sympathetic Lola tells her about a boy at her care home with a drink problem. In a temper, Tanya goes home to cool down but Cora picks the worst time to tell Tanya its time to sort herself and Lauren out- does she want Max or not? She decides to go over to the car lot to tell Max she wants him back but stops when she sees him about to hit Peter. When the teenager leaves, they have a shouting match- Tanya tells him that she is aware that Lauren is aware, believing Max doesn't care and tells him about Kirsty's lie.

Meanwhile, back at number 45, Ian remembers what Dot told him about putting Lucy in her place and asks Denise to help him get his businesses back from her.

Duff Duff: Denise Fox

Denise agrees but warns Ian not to be underhand.

Amazing episodes!
I love the scene where Peter is wiping Alice's cheek - so sweet!
Lauren is being a brat, but the way you're writing for her makes me feel sorry for her, while in the real show, I didn't.

Max wakes up to the new day in the office of the car lot, having opted to sleep there rather than return to his lying wife. He sees her outside the window calling for him but he does not answer. However, as he crosses the square after, she explains that she was pregnant and lost the baby and that she only lied for the first month or so. Max is still angry however and tells her that the funny thing is, he would have stayed with her regardless of what happened to the baby. Now with no baby or husband, Kirsty turns to Kat who just says that she told her so; enraged at the lack of support, Kirsty snipes back by saying that at least she accepts responsibility for her actions and apologised to her husband- what has Kat done?

Kat is affected by Kirsty's words and when Jean tries to comfort her, she says that Kirsty is right and its time for Kat to put her guard down- comparing Kat and Alfie's relationship to the song 'Halo' by Beyonce. Kat remains sceptical but when she drops Tommy off with Alfie, she takes the chance to talk to him but it seems that Alfie has finally washed his hands off her. Roxy is not sympathetic at all to Kat's plight but when she sees the redhead drown her sorrows at the bar, the buxom blonde pulls up a stool and it seems that there is hope for them yet- until a drunk Kat continues to make spiteful jibes about Rolfie and Roxy slaps her rival, resulting in a bust up.

Denise persuades Ian to talk to Lucy about possibly getting the businesses back but Ian tells her that she won't listen and that trickery is the only way to take back what she stole from him. Denise tries to enlist Peter to talk sense to Ian- but Peter sides with Ian, saying what Lucy did was bad everything needs to go back to normal. Later, Peter looks for Sharon and tells her what is going on- he tells her about Derek's cash being used for the restaurant and how Ian wants the businesses back from Lucy. What they don't know is that a stranger named Carl has overheard their conversation...

Denise gets annoyed when Sharon is the only person Ian will listen to as she tells him that he does deserve his businesses back, but he does he want to risk alienating his own daughter?

New storyline ahead for EastEnders character

In his interview earlier this year, EastEnders Executive Producer IanMandy hinted that the soap's sweetheart Poppy Meadow will be at the center of a major storyline later this year.

The beautician, played by Rachel Bright, has been under a lot of stress recently as she is worried about her best friend Alice Branning's (Jasmyn Banks) involvement with Michael Moon and more trouble is set to come for her after her boss Tanya Cross leaves the salon in Poppy's hands.

"It seems only right that an actress as talented as Rachel can get a story that she can sink her teeth into. EastEnders is known for its gritty drama and for tackling social issues and that's exactly what we will be doing- this is only the first step to turn the soap around.

Poppy is normally an optimistic and charismatic person and viewers will see that this is actually just a front to hide her true self. There will be plenty of interaction with Fatboy and Dot- and in the process, Poppy will befriend another older female who will help her turn her life about"

Christmas storyline revealed

Executive Producer IanMandy has revealed the next stage of his emergency plans to stop the falling ratings by planning an explosive Christmas. It has already been revealed that this year's festive season will focus on the Watts family.
'Sharon Watts is an EastEnders legend and rightly deserves to be at the center of storylines. Sharon's pill addiction will come to a head in December with a few unexpected twists along the way- and Vicki is on her way back. Plus, viewers will see a character with connections to the Watts family arrive on Christmas Eve. We can't reveal who it is I'm afraid but its sure to be an exciting time for the Watts family, with the Mitchells and Beales also getting involved.'
