Pets in minicabs

Has anyone taken a pet to the vet using a minicab? Have you ever been charged extra for carrying the animal?

I recently got charged an extra £3 for carrying a cat in a sealed bag, which I thought was unfair as it was a general purpose bag that could have been holding anything. If I had a dog running around loose in the back, leaving hairs all over seats I could understand the surcharge, but not an animal completely sealed in a waterproof bag with no chance of escape, leaving hairs behind or even soiling the car.

So, have you ever been charged extra for a pet in a carrier, bag or even just loose in the back?

I hope to God that that wasn't one of the vacuum pack bags that you use to store things with

(did the cat have air holes at least or was the poor thing deceased?)

Agree with above, a bag??? I have had my cat in his carrier and pre-warned in case of allergies but never been charged.

I always use my cab company to take the cats to the vets, I have used them for business for about 15 years and they never have a problem and certainly dont charge extra, the cat is in her basket and makes no mess. But I always tell them in advance its a vet run so they know as some drivers may be allergic.

Once they had a temp driver who said I had to put the cat basket in the boot , a sealed boot not an estate car to which I politely asked him if he would put his kids in the boot and declined his cab, the cab company sent me another one .

Perhaps the OP took a leaf out of one of Oscar Wilde's plays: "A haaandbaaaag!"

Came back from the vets once with my dog. She had not coped well over night there and had soiled herself and was struggling to walk. (She was prone to strokes in her old age and the stress had caused another one)

I just used my coat and the Minicab driver didn't charge me extra. In fact he was very considerate

I've travelled my dog in a taxi before, called ahead and explained and they were fine, didn't charge me any extra, just had to keep her off the seats

That's shocking! Took my cat to/from vet a couple of times in a cab, no problems or extra charges whatsoever, and he was in a cage!
