I melted a couple of chocolate bars in
a bowl
I stirred in some rice crispies
I divided them into 8 or so cakes on some silver foil

The result... they were ok... but...
they were soft, not crispy ...
should I have let the chocolate cool a little before adding the crispies ?

Were the rice crispies a bit soggy or soft?

I normally use corn flakes as we hardly ever have rice crispies unless they are on special offer.

no the rice crispies were perfect...

I remember, when melting the chocolate I added just a touch of milk....
maybe that was a mistake ?

Maybe I should have used only chocolate
and then.... perhaps let the choc cool a little before adding the crispies ?

I use a mix of milk and dark chocolate, a knob of butter and a tablespoon of golden syrup.
Then I keep adding rice krispies til it gets stodgy. Let it cool but not set, and then shape and put into cases. I usually make loads at Christmas, drizzle some melted white chocolate on the top, stick on a couple of sugar paste holly leaves and berries, and you have chocolate crispie Christmas puds.

Yeah, I think you might be right - try letting the chocolate cool a bit more first (not too much though).

That sounds like a fantastic idea! I'll be trying that out at Christmas for sure.

From my youth, i remember the vicars wife using crispies to make
fabulous cake/stroke biscuits and I think golden syrup was the other ingredient.... maybe it involved the oven too ?

I think we always used to use coco powder and golden syrup.

That was when I was young and they tasted lovely, but my wife does them with the kids nowadays by melting chocolate and I'm sure they are not as good.

Will have to experiment some time.

They really are fabulous and dead easy. I spend one night making hundreds of leaves and berries, enough to last me the month.
Then I just make a batch every few days and take them as gifts. Even had requests for them.

A friend made some chocolate free crispies, usiing golden syrup and melted marshmallow. A bit too sweet for my taste.
