I'd sooner they got rid of the bloody "urban" dance groups. If I see one more of them I'm going to put my foot through the ****ing telly!

The kids and the singers are obviously generating the revenue from the phone votes. This is all they're interested in

I might be wrong as it's so rarely mentioned in the media, but isn't there some kind of TV show for singers?

This is really just a stab in the dark, but I'm SURE there was a show like this on TV...

Can't they all go to that?

This is where the issue comes in - some, like the child singers and Richard and Adam, wouldn't have a chance of these shows as the audience doesn't lead towards classical acts (saying that I guess G4 and Rhydian Roberts both finished 2nd on The X Factor) and do not allow children to enter.

Pop singers should be thrown out straight away IMO, or offered an audition on The X Factor instead.

Hmmm. Pants. Those are all very good points!

I suppose allowing everyone with 'talent' to enter is absolutely the best option...

Thanks for posting this!

As has already been stated I haven't got a problem with the likes of Susan Boyle or Richard and Adam entering as I really could not imagine them coming out and belting out one one Lady Gaga's greatest hits (or whatever 'weeks' they have on X Factor nowadays), but young, pop singers I do have a problem with.

Just go on X Factor, it's a competition designed for people like them. One of the main reasons I watch BGT is because of the variety, but it's quickly turning into X Factor lite.

Gets very tedious having to sit through 5-6 singers a night.

Agree. I want to see variety!

The sillier and camper, the better!

This year it's been kids, urban dance and singers. Yawn!

I thought this was a thread Simon Cowell had started.

He dissed a great singer (Alex) as not being "star" material and I couldn't work out why. Then after a great evening's entertainment on comes his 'project'/'product' over exposed/promoted on radio and TV Olly Murs. The most untalented "star" ever created by a "let me show off my hairy chest on a Friday night when everyone's watching" entertainment guru.

It was almost like he knew mediocre was following 2 great singers (Alex and Asanda) and he was making excuses before Olly's less than average performance. Was he worried that "easy ride and talentless" was going to be exposed?

Backtracking later after a terrible so-called "star" performance with "I watched you back in my dressing room Alex and it was great".

SC doesn't want great singers showing up his rubbish projects aimed at the less than discerning.

Let the Public witness great singing please.

I thought Alex was weaker tonight than at the audition stage; I wish he had chosen another musical song - it's what made him stand out originally.

He sang an extremely difficult song which showed an amazing vocal talent. Nothing weak in his performance at all. In fact quite the opposite.

I can only make a comparison with the so-called "star" and he did give a "weaker" performance.

BGT offers great singers compared to XF where the so-called "stars" are mediocre singers. (I am not including the winners of XF in this observation).

If good singers are platformed on BGT then I say leave it.

For me he did reasonably well with it but not brilliantly - he made me wince on one high note. He's the kind of singer that Britain's Got Talent should be open to but out and out pop singers should be told to audition for The X Factor instead IMO.

It won't happen as this show is controlled right up to the final to be exactly what they want and sod what we want.

They hope that by the time of the final, they have fixed it so much that they will get the result they when they finally hand control over to the public.

The one and only chance we have is to vote on mass for a non-singing/dancing/kid act. The shadow one looks like the best bet.

There's been no 'great' singers this year. The talent this year is just at an incredibly low standard compared to other years.

I think the glory days of the show has come to an end; they'll never recreate a final as great as season 2 where there were at least 6 contenders because of they all had talent.

I don't think they should get rid, they should just not put as many though to the semi finals.

I'd rather get rid of all the dance troupes. Sick to death of them.

I like the singers because we don't just get pop acts or kids.

I think the kids should have their own BGT and the adults in the original one.

I agree if I wanted to see 10 singers I would watch the x factor, there is a reason I dont watch that, but unfortunately it is not going to happen, when this show started it probably was about variety but as it got more popular simon realised he could use it as his own personnel cash cow, and I do believe has soin as he gets his 1 great singing artist to win this show and go on and make it big he will drop this show

I do get a bit fed up with wannabe pop stars on BGT but there are other genres that get a decent airing. Can anyone imagine Paul Potts auditioning for X-Factor?

What has annoyed me about this series of BGT is the amount of kiddiewinks who've been voted for because of the aaahhh factor and not for their talent, the illusionist who was on last night was just amazing but he's now lost because a would-be diva was voted for because she was eleven years old. Singers are two-a-penny, a brilliant illusionist is a rarity.

Just my opinion, you understand.

I agree. Why are singers appearing on BGT anyway when there is the X Factor and The Voice for them? BGT is for variety acts. Last night James the illusionist should have been top three, and he probably would have been had it not been for the two singers.

Stevie pink had potential, ruined it being too camp.

I don't think getting rid of them is fair, but I would certainly put less of them through to the semi-finals and perhaps limit the type of singer, for example, Luminites, Jordan O'Keefe, Alice Fredenham, Robbie Kennedy, Rosie O'Sullivan, Arisxandra and Asanda (when they're older) are much more suited to X Factor or The Voice, in my opinion.

Other types of singer such as opera singers, musical theatre acts, maybe even gospel are fine on BGT for me, because X Factor and The Voice typically aren't suited for those genres.

Agreed. People are always saying stuff like 'off with the singers' even though they don't realise that this is practically the only platform for some singers. That said, we can't have an opera singer winning each year, and those which do appear on the show, can become boring if they perform the same, well-known songs (Nessun Dorma, The Impossible Dream etc).
