And a nice bit of Jeff Lynne. Jeff in tight closeup followed by rather ropey animation..

Not my fave ELO track I'm afraid. One of three consecutive No6's they had in 1978, bit of a devil that!

Like Clockwork, I'm intending to buy this track after it's recent appearances on TOTP.

Is anyone else getting heartily sick to death of the amount of trailers that are now interupting Pick Of The Pops in a way that they never used to do so?

At least that was good timing for us 1978 lovers eh! He finally makes 70 this Friday.

Kate Bush, ahhh just perfect. Such a shame we don't seem to have heard this song much on the actual TOTP recently. She wrote that when she was just 14 years old, that is amazing, I never knew that. To use another of her hits....Wow!
And the story goes that she was 16 when some of the tracks from 'Kick Inside' were recorded, and if memory serves
'Man With the Child in His Eyes' was one of them - Wow indeed!

10 points to Tone for playing 'Like Clockwork' - can't remember the last time I heard it on the radio.

Good man! I'd listen to some of the other tracks on its parent album 'A tonic for the troops' too.

I haven't heard this Showaddywaddy number on the radio for a while either. Funnily enough I was listening to 'I Wonder Why' on the mp3 player when I went for my morning stroll over the beach this morning.

Clout, a 5 piece girl group almost 20 years ahead of those other 90's pretenders to girl power. And this Substitute track is not dated one bit, unlike every single that those 90's Wannabe's did now sound like.

"You've been friendzoned, but I'll happily have you". How come that trope is only common in lyrics?

And it's a LOT more open-handed than any of the younger pretenders... "Just say the word, I'm yours" rather than "Jump these hoops - but you're STILL second to my mates"

Oh my word - I can't believe he's playing it.

I've said and written it before but I'll do so again, whilst this is an evil little track I'd happily choose to listen to it over some of the crud that seems to have been really popular over the last couple of years, including many a Rihanna track I'll have you know!

This song really does make me regress right back to childhood in an instant every time. The Smurfs.

I'll check out the Rats album that Clockwork comes from Tortfeasor.

You're sure paying close attention to the lyrics Alcockell!

Oh dear, visions of Floyd writhing his hips close to camera!

Even on radio you don't get the Shake Shack.

The Smurfs film is news to me! Will I see it? Highly unlikely. The Smurfs are only the Smurfs with dear old (or infact young as he was) Father Abraham.

Just noticed how other-minded we all were back in the 70s... especially when I saw a thread on Danny Alexander claiming £8.5K for his kids on my Fb timeline.. http://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/N...n-19072013.htm

And the same supporting sentiment - not a pity-shag but a more nourishing sexual offer - is alluded to in tracks like ONJ's Talk To Me etc...

Catch you guys back at home on the TOTP 1978 thread which I've got a bit behind with, when I've caught up with the corresponding TOTP show to today's POTP. To wait until gone 1am tonight on BBC4, or use catch up? Decisions decisions! Best on TV I think.

Absolutely, and also detest that womans voice who accentuates the 'RADIO 2' at the end of each sickening trailer..

Thank goodness somebody else agrees with me, Ringwayman!

At least twice each hour the show is now getting punctuated with long and pointless trailers. This never used to happen. It makes it feel like commercial radio and I really feel it spoils the continuity on Pick Of The Pops.

Don't get me started on that over long traffic news they seem to feel they have to do just after the 2pm news every single Saturday either, which takes up another 3 minutes each week. Totally pointless.

Of course, none of it is Tony's fault, and he himself produces a continued high quality of show himself.

The trailers for other Radio 2 programmes are tolerable but what I find totally unacceptable is when they are plugging BBC TV shows..!!!!!!!!
It seems to be nowadays the more outlets there are for people to find out what's on and when, the more we have to be constantly told at every opportunity!

Yes, a horrible "management speak" term they use for doing that is "cross promotion", and I agree it has never been easier to find out the precise information you want about almost everything.

I kid you not, but one night at about 10.30pm or so I actually saw a trailer on BBC2 for the CBBC Children's Channel. Infact I've come across many quite truly zany examples in a similar vein.

Insofar as POTP is concerned, there is no need for it in the middle of the show. Play the trailer up to the news bulletin on the hour after the show has ended, or just before it begins. Do not behave like a commercial radio station interupting the show at least twice each hour. The trailers glaze over me anyway, so don't do their job for me, other than to annoy. But the BBC knows full well that trailers annoy the hell out of their listeners, especially those over on Radio 4 too, but continue onward regardless. But they are getting progressively more intrusive during POTP this year.

They ought to cross promote the TOTP repeats.

I can't say I'd particularly noticed trailers any more than usual, but will definitely take not when I catch up with this week's show. It would have made sense if they'd promoted the fact that the BBC are showing TOTP from 1978 when featuring the 1978 chart.
