Totally agree, Crowded House they added to the post '86 decline in the standard of pop music, what went wrong?!

I bought what I think was the follow up single to I Got You, an A&M laser etched disc History Never Repeats in the summer of '81, a cracking track that didn't trouble the Top 40.

I found this in my VHS collection the other day, recorded from Channel 4 in 1991, sat down and watched it, highly enjoyable it certainly captures the 'feel' of 1979/80. The 1991 adverts were quite entertaining as well...”

I am sorry but I disagree strongly. How can quality songs like "Don't Dream It's Over" be part of a decline in quality of Pop music? Split Enz had quite a short lifespan where as Crowded House are still going today. "I Got You" and "Message To My Girl" are the only 2 songs that stand out as being as good as Crowded House. Infact unlike Crowded House some of Split Enz material sounds quite dated now.

Eh?

The "we don't need no education" song of the early 70's I guess - School's Out.

Two follow up tracks that ended up as bigger top five hits in the 80's, Jackie Wilson's I Get The Sweetest Feeling in 1987 and Derek & The Domino's Layla in 1982.

Agree with you. I own it! It wasn't played in the first 3 tracks though.

Mama Weer All Crazee Now is surely what would later be called a "heavy metal" track.

The Cars had an absolutely excellent follow up to Drive in 1985, called Heartbeat City, which failed to become a hit single.
