Personal choice of course but I shan't be listening anymore.

Tony Blackburn WAS Pick of the Pops. His humour, warmth and genuine love of the programme and the records made the show. Without him it's just an oldies programme.

His treatment by the BBC is disgraceful. Forty-nine years of service flushed away, they have made him a scapegoat for their own failings and cover-ups over the Savile and Hall scandals.

IT sounds like a voice tracked show to me.

I thought it was interesting that Graham Norton made no reference to POTP when his show ended.

going by the latest interview by Blackburn were he claims tony hall wanted him to resign and then later return, i'm wondering if goodier's pick of the pops shows were recorded a few weeks in advance and after 4 weeks of goodier's shows Tony would have miraculously returned

This is only according to Tony though as the BBC have not commented. What would have been the point in that though? If the public had found out that the BBC allowed a presenter to return after a few weeks who admitted to lying in an important sexual abuse investigation they would hardly come out looking good?

Yes exactly. That would seem very doubtful

No, his lawyer said that Tony Blackburn appreciated that Dame Janet might find the documentary evidence more compelling than his recollections. That is not quite the same thing. We also only have Dame Janet's paraphrasing of the statement rather than the full context.

Coincidence, Mark has just done that 1988 chart, this was the first one he did when he filled in for Bruno Brookes on Radio 1 back on 21st February 1988 at 5pm.

Very strange coincidence here - it looks like the chart from 1988 that Mark is playing on his first Pick of the Pops is the very same one from the first time he ever presented the Radio 1 chart show, sitting in for Bruno on 21st February 1988.

(And just as I was about to post that, Mark read out a message from somebody saying the very same thing! And now somebody else has posted the same thing at the same time!!)

I know Richard who sent that text - how the heck could anyone have predicted that would happen ?

The BBC does not change & never will talk about paid up members of the Self Preservation Society of course Tony Blackburn has been used as a scapegoat plain & simple.

You post the same nonsense in 2 threads.

Nice comment from Mark that Morrissey's Suedehead stood the test of time, implying that most of the records played earlier in the hour didn't. We appear to be getting records selected according to chart performance that week rather than radio friendliness. Personally I welcome that. Unfortunately 1988 is just a duff year musically and you can't change that.

In your opinion of course, which is not shared by all. But, in my opinion, not a patch on 1977.

So I assume the show is live then?

Re BIB- I've not heard it all, half listening, half watching the football but presume you meant Sisters of Mercy? Very nice to hear both them and The Mission though.

I don't mind Mark Goodier but do find his presenting skills a bit bland and functional at best when compared to TB who brings far more individuality and charm to proceedings.

He brought his ego and terrible jokes to a show that is supposed to be a retro chart show all about the music. I have been able to listen for the first time in years.

Least we know now why you refused to back Blackburn. You don't like him.

Oh get a grip. I don't know him and nor do most people on this thread. If there is evidence that is was wrong for Tony to be fired I would back him despite not being a fan of his as a broadcaster.

Tony Blackburn's style was much more like Alan Freeman's on POTP.

Fluff would do the dry comments and introduce stuff with jingles.

Dale Winton was just bland by comparison whereas Tony brought back the fun to the programme. I assume Goodier was as bland as Winton, but I decided if I wanted bland programming I could find it elsewhere so retuned to Magic FM.

Well I boycotted Pick Of The Pops today in favour of the great music, fun & humour on board the MV Ross Revenge from Radio Caroline North on 1368 kHz AM. Sod the BBC!

Goodier was ok today. Nothing great but ok. I did miss Tony for his humour and presentation style.

Personally I find that an insult to Alan Freeman as a broadcaster.
