Finally getting round to posting my comments on the 1992 charts. I definitely think it was a better chart that when they last did 1992 back in July.
21 November 21 1992
Top 20
20 SLEEPING SATELLITE - TASMIN ARCHER - Okay, a predictable, safe start to the show but I didn't mind it being played. I don't know if its because I know the time of year when it was released, but I think the song sounds autumny.
17 FREE YOUR MIND/GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL - EN VOGUE Amazing vocals, and powerful lyrics, but I have to say this and the other A side, don't grab me as much as their other hits My Lovin' and Don't Let Go (Love).
15 (TAKE A LITTLE) PIECE OF MY HEART - ERMA FRANKLIN - Good song, but I knew this must have been in the chart because it was in an advert. I was surprised when I checked and discovered it was Levis as I don't remember the ad at all unlike their other ones.
14 OUT OF SPACE/RUFF IN THE JUNGLE BIZNESS - THE PRODIGY - In shock that The Prodigy got played! The main thing I remember about this track is the "I'll Take Your Brain To Another Dimension" not the reggae-type bit. Going back to Levi's ads, surely this song must have been the inspiration for Babylon Zoo's Spaceman.
12 YESTERDAYS - GUNS N' ROSES - I know I've said before that the only Guns And Roses Song I like is Sweet Child Of Mine. I just cannot bear Axl's vocal. Considering the weather we've had this week he ought to have played the B-side November Rain!
11 THE MONTREUX EP - SIMPLY RED - I'm guessing the track played , Lady Godiva's Room got all the airplay but I don't remember it at all. It was a change to hear this rather than their usual hits, and what POTP should be all about. Not a fan of Mick Hucknall but there's no denying he's got a good voice and the audience certain seemed to have enjoyed this judging by their applause.
09 TEMPTATION (BROTHERS IN RHYTHM REMIX) - HEAVEN 17 - I've actually just bought the CD single of this even though it probably is on itunes. An absolute 80s classic and this remix is just as good as the original. I also like the remix they did for Kylie Finer Feelings in this year too.
08 BE MY BABY - VANESSA PARADIS - Definitely a highlight from this chart for me. Such a gorgeous song that I've rediscovered with my 1992 binge-listening. I bought the single on cassette at the time, but now have it on a compilation CD.
07 INVISIBLE TOUCH (LIVE) - GENESIS - Would much sooner hear the 1986 studio version. Phil Collins sounds like he's just going through the motions on this. I noticed they edited the bit where he uses the F word although isn't it bleeped it out.
05 NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY - UNDERCOVER - Don't hate me but I don't actually mind this, especially the "slip away, slip away" bit. I do like the original as well, of course.
04 I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU - WHITNEY HOUSTON - No way this was ever going to be skipped, sadly. I liked it at the time and think I bought the single, but I've more than had my fill of it now.
03 PEOPLE EVERYDAY - ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT - Don't know anything about the group, but this is a really funky tune.
02 END OF THE ROAD - BOYZ II MEN - A bit slushy and the version with the talky bit in it is too cheesy so glad that wasn't played, but I do like this one. I remember going to see the film Boomerang at the time that it featured in but I think its pretty much been forgotten now.
01 WOULD I LIE TO YOU - CHARLES AND EDDIE - I love a one hit wonder and this is definitely one of the better ones and worthy of being no. 1. Its sad that Charles died so young and they didn't go on to have more hits.
Top 20 tracks skipped
19 (10) WHO NEEDS LOVE LIKE THAT - ERASURE Oh, such a shame this wasn't played. I didn't know it before they released this Hamburg Remix to promote the excellent Pop! The First Twenty Hits CD album. I can't believe it was a flop first time round.
18 HELLO (TURN YOUR RADIO ON) - SHAKESPEARS SISTER - I'm sure that if it had been Stay in this chart it would have been played. While the only Shakespears Sister song I'm mad about is You're History, I still would have liked to have heard this one.
16 I'M GONNA GET YOU - BIZARRE INC FT ANGIE BROWN - Great dance track. I'm not sure why Angie Brown wasn't credited on this yet is on their other hits as its her vocal that really makes the song.
13 SUPERMARIOLAND FT MC MARIO - AMBASSADORS OF FUNK - I think this is the track in this chart that is most 1992 and on the that basis it should have been played. Not that I like the song, of course, or computer games for that matter.
10 RUN TO YOU - RAGE - I can't believe this was a bigger hit than the Bryan Adams original. I actually wouldn't mind it if it wasn't for the rap/chant bit in the middle.
06 BOSS DRUM - THE SHAMEN - Not as memorable as their other hits from this year, Ebeneezer Goode and Phorever People, but wouldn't have minded it being played.
Not particularly looking forward to 1989 this Saturday, but 1979 the week after will be good.
