God, there are some cracking songs in this chart

I loved it. Me and a friend used to sit on the side of the bath with back-scrubbers and pretend we were paddling a canoe while listening to Rolf on a portable radio. Was looking forward to hearing on my surround system this afternoon but no such joy.

1962 was a very good listen, topped off with an atrocious No1 that sounds like it was sung by a tipsy uncle.

Proved predictably correct in my 100% guarantee a few days ago when I said that The Sparrow would not chirp.

As it was down 4 to 15 Gambo had the perfect reason to not play it. Plus it's an awful record.

'Diamond Smiles' by The Boomtown Rats is a brilliant but long forgotten song.

I personally find that Boomtown Rats song, Diamond Smiles, incredibly ordinary, which isn't hard when you consider the two chart topping songs that preceded it. I also find Bob Geldof to be reaching new heights of insufferability lately regarding his attitude to such a vast number of people of this great nation of ours who chose a path he disagrees with.

The original 'Saddle Up'. Check out that bass line. A much better song too.

This 1979 chart is brilliant so far after the generally mellow, easy listening overload that was '62.

1962 did have one track that even 1979 would struggle to beat in brilliance and iconic status - Telstar.

It's quite brilliant. 'Confusion' by ELO is a good song though I wished Gambo had played the AA side 'Last Train To London' I remember it being sampled in the 00s by Atomic Kitten if I recall.

Now 'One Step Beyond' by Madness. Utter brilliance.

An interesting trivia snippet by Gambo re 'Complex' .. should do it more often.

A decade that began with No1 hits like Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes ends with one like Walking On The Moon. What a mighty contrast.

I agree that the trivia about Herb Alpert being on Round Table and praising Complex by Gary Numan was just the kind of anecdote that serves Paul very well and we should hear far more of on the show. Wouldn't it be great to be able to hear that edition properly. If the BBC has them somewhere then how about podcasting them for the music enthusiast.

I have to disagree with you that "vast numbers of people chose a path". We didn't. The referendum result was just less than 52 percent to slightly more than 48 percent. That is a very tight margin. I seem to remember a recent post in which you praised Theresa May for her leadership. Other than repeating empty phrases such as "Brexit Means Brexit", can you remind me of something she has done.
