Ah yes - just when David SOul's singing career sank without a trace...

Yay - managed to get back on here after my computer throwing one its regular hissy fits!
Loving 1977. I thought Tony didn't like Elvis, so was hoping we'd get Patsy Gallant instead.
The fact the Carpenters never got a UK number one is a travesty. I knew we'd get the tale about how he and Phil met them YET again, after refraining last week.
David Soul - the best song he ever did.

Status Quo, Rockin' All Over The World, forget Georgio's hit, this one is the real sound of summer '85 if you know what I mean.

Classy end as ever by Abba at No1.

That Shirley Bassey track nearly made me switch it off temporarily earlier in the show.

And the Tornados at No1 with Telstar. Have an original vinyl copy of this. What a truly rousing classic of it's time. It actually sounds quite profound to me. ”

Yes, there certainly were, and schoolgirl sniggers too.

Tony says 1978 and 1986 next week, but the POTP website, and others say 1974 and 1982???

That's interesting as he definitely said 1978 and 1986 at the very end of today's show, and also 1982 was only played on 5th October, so just 4 weeks ago.

Interesting! Not bothered about 1978 yet again, but it'll be good to hear 1986 instead of 1982.

Frustratingly yes, From Here To Eternity was a remix sounding from the mid/late 80s. Giorgio was ahead of his time by remixing the track as a single. In those days tracks were, at most, only edited for single release (and you rarely hear those anymore - I bet the Carpenters was the album version). The single mix of From Here To Eternity is actually 2 tracks from the album of the same name segued. They are From Here To Eternity (slightly remixed) and Utopia. If you love the last part of the single (Utopia) you get the full version on the album! Until recently I've only found the single version on an import CD but it faded early .

It's ironic Radio 2 did a Moroder 2 part special a few months ago which tied in with his first comprehensive greatest hits CD being released. The big plus for fans was the inclusion (finally) of the single mix of From Here To Eternity....... and Radio 2 still go and play the wrong version

Maybe they should update their system to make sure only the correct one is now played as this also happened a few years ago - again on POTP - under Winton's watch.

I understand Tony now knows of these threads on Digital Spy, so after reading your thread the previous week re the Carpenters, he may have included it again this week as a joke!

Virginia Plain was an exact re-issue in 1977, to promote a current album at the time. The EP you are probably thinking of was in the top 20 credited to Bryan Ferry in 1976, and titled Extended Play, but didn't include Virginia Plain on it.

Despite what Tony stated at the end of last weeks edition when he said he would be playing both 1978 and 1986 today, all the listings seem to agree that POTP is infact playing the hits from this week back in 1974 and 1982 today.

Wish it was 1986 rather than 82 again, although there are some good songs in the chart. Not sure if it'll be the 6 or 13 of November chart being played.

What a good POTP today.

This part of 1974 was actually quite credible, just a shame David Essex kept Queen's second single off the top spot.

Like that Peppers single too.

Mike Batt, always a womble to me! Not heard that Minuetto song before. I still have a little womble somewhere from age 6, the following year.

Boy George sang his own version of Everything I Own on Later last night, having previously sung a new song of his called Love & Danger which had a distinctly reggae sounding influence itself. Now George will be coming up in the 1982 hour with his debut chart hit right at the end.
