That is when Tuesday was the day of Chart announcement.

BTW Tony Blackburn did the main countdown on Sunday 14th.

In which Lennon was falling down the chart with (Just Like) Starting Over which the following week did a prompt reverse and rebounded 21 to No1.

Never got a chance to hear the show live today. One for the catch up later.

Listen out for the rather odd comment that Blackburn made about Cliff Richard, a cottage in Blackpool and the "Big One". Not quite sure what to make of it...

Lol - The Big One is a ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Tony was implying that there's more exciting things to do if you're in Blackpool now than finish off a song as Cliff did.

Yes, I know that.

But I also know that "cottage" is slang for a public toilet in which men meet other men for sex and, of course, "Big One" has suggestive implications. Was Tony making a joke about Cliff's alleged sexuality? (Or did Cliff really write that song in a cottage in Blackpool?)

Since Tony seems to be a big fan of Cliff, I don't think he was making innuendos about his sexuality.

I didn't have the time to comment more when I made my earlier post. I was surprised when I heard the 1963 chart earlier this week how many songs I knew and liked, so I enjoyed hearing it again. I don't know if it was I Had A Hammer that alcockell was referring to in his post, but it certainly took me right back to school assemblies! A great Liverpool double - with the Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers at 1 and 2.

It was good to have a 90s chart, though a cop-out that the No. 1 was a reissue of a 60s song. I expect that's why it was chosen. I would've liked to have heard the Jive Bunny single for curiosity as I can't remember any of their songs after their Christmas one in 1989. Also, I think Gazza and Lindasfarne should have been played even though it's dreadful song, because it just sums up what an idol he was in that year that people actually bought it! I didn't but I did buy that Rod and Tina song. Was it in an advert?
Well I enjoyed hearing Vanilla Ice and it was nice to hear another Proclaimer's song to (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles. It's a shame that Don't Worry didn't get to No. 1. It was great to see Kim Appleby have such a big comeback hit after the death of Mel.

Good to hear 1990, and a chart which Dale featured back in 2009, although Tony played the vocal version of Falling by Julee Cruise ( quite rightly), where as Dale picked the instrumental version back then. Nice to hear a 90s chart occasionally for a change.

Are any of our readers having problems accessing the ordinary Chart Stats website. It now appears to have been completely been shut down???

Interesting, as I glanced the website within the past 7 days and the basic site was still available, but as you say, the whole thing is now apparently gone at the moment. However, over on the TOTP1978 thread a few months ago Robbie01 put a link up to a place that would enable people to gain access to how it was previously with all it's info. Maybe if he sees this here he could re-post that link, or you could always PM him about it direct. I recall using it a couple of times but have entirely forgotten how to access it now. So all may not be lost.

I must admit I'd forgotten the link so have been using the official site again to date my retro chart recording. I hope Robbie reposts the link.

So gutted that the 80s Christmas chart this year is going to be 89 - I'd say my least favourite out of all the 80s years. At least there's 1983 to look forward to - so excited about that!

Most of it is here:

http://web.archive.org/web/201107261...hp?decade=1970

It's slower than the original, and missing a few features, but still 10 times better than the official one.

Navigation via the number ones list to the particular chart wanted always works well for me.

Christmas 1989 was an incredibly dire chart and was no way to end the overwhelmingly great 80's. Generic drivel by Band Aid II at the top. I've heard comments about comparing the 5 years between the original in 1984 and the horror that was that vile 1989 version, and it's basically said you can view the 80's music decline from 84 to 89 by just gazing at the substantial characters in the 1984 song and the lightweight fluff that mostly graced the 1989 one. That song made me really angry at the time and I was even madder that people bought into it all over again when they could have just bought the 1984 original for the same charitable effect.

Don't get me started on that trash beyond belief Jive Bunny earache called Let's Party that hit the top the week before Christmas. Equally appalling. To think the 1980's ended like this after such a brilliant beginning was deeply depressing.

However there was a really brilliant and classy song out that made No2 in December 1989 so all was not lost. Don't Know Much by Linda Rondstadt & Aaron Neville.

(Haven't forgotten 1982 tape Clare, and any other good stuff I find - need a few hours time to trawl it, that's all. )

Oh God, I hate Get A Life!

I don't actually mind the Band Aid 2 single. The single had both versions on it, so no excuse for anyone not to buy it because of Stock Aitken Waterman!

I don't know if they'll omit Jive Bunny at No. 2 because it features Rock And Roll Christmas.

I'll ejoy hearing When You Come Back to me, but apart from that I'm not really bothered about the rest of the chart. I used to like at the time Don't Know Much, but now I find it so cheesy. It's not a patch on Linda's duet James Ingram - Somewhere Out There.

No rush, but looking forward to hearing what's on those tapes, Rich.

Thought I recognised these tracks from not too long ago, they were in the top 3 of 1990 featured on 5th Jan this year!
