Gonna do another post later on about re the comemnts on the format of the show, but for the time being here's a few of my ramblings on the 1988 chart:
January 30 1988
I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY - KYLIE MINOGUE - Good start. 1988 was definitely Kylie's year. Probably my fave of the hits from her Kylie album, but nowhere near as Better The Devil You Know.
TELL IT TO MY HEART - TAYLOR DAYNE - Love this! I think she's a great voice and it's a shame she didn't have many hits here in the UK.
ALWAYS ON MY MIND - PET SHOP BOYS - Good song, but is definitely "1987" and, as so, should have been skipped in this chart.
THE JACK THAT HOUSE BUILT - JACK 'N' CHILL - Couldn't remember this song until it started, as it wasn't the sort of music I was into back then, but found myself really enjoying it. Glad it was played.
HOT IN THE CITY - BILLY IDOL - Love this, though I had no idea that it had originally been released in 1982 until it was featured on the excellent Ashes To Ashes.
SHAKE YOUR LOVE - DEBBIE GIBSON - I think this is a good, catchy song, though unlikely to appeal beyond the teenage girls of the time.
CANDLE IN THE WIND (LIVE) - ELTON JOHN - I like this live version, and the original, but the Princess Diana version makes me want to vomit!
ANGEL EYES (HOME AND AWAY) - WET WET WET - This is another song I think of more as "1987" so wouldn't have mind it being skipped. Their earlier songs were definitely their best.
I FOUND SOMEONE - CHER - Great comeback single for her, but I think it could have been skipped.
O L'AMOUR - DOLLAR - Not as good as the orginal, but a decent cover and a deserved final big hit for Dollar.
COME INTO MY LIFE - JOYCE SIMS - It was a no brainer this would be played. Don't dislike it, but it's a bit bland.
WHEN WILL I BE FAMOUS? - BROS - This song and, I Owe You Nothing are definitely my fave Bros songs.
SIGN YOUR NAME - TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY - Definitely my fave song of his. Shame it all went wrong after his first album.
HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH - BELINDA CARLISLE - Liked this at the time, but find it a bit irritating now.
I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW - TIFFANY - Don't mind this, but preferred her next single, Could've Been.
Not played
IDEAL WORLD - CHRISTIANS - While I appreciate the sentimentof the song, I do find the Christians' songs a bit boring.
ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT - STRANGLERS - Although the Stranglers, it is a cover of a 60's song, so thought it might have might have got played
HEATSEEKER AC/DC - Had to youtube this one. Not as bad as some of their other songs, though the only one of theirs I know that I really like is You Shook Me All Night Long.
RISE TO THE OCCASSION - CLIMIE FISHER - While I like both versions, I was annoyed that the last time they played this this played the original version, not the Hip Hop mix that was the hit.
BEATMASTERS FEAT. THE COOKIE CREW - I preferred the Beatmasters' hit with Bettty Book, but this is okay. I wasn't surprised it was skipped, though.
STUTTER RAP (NO SLEEP 'TIL BEDTIME) MORRIS MINOR AND THE MAJORS - It's a shame this never gets played now, since Tony took over the show.
HOUSE ARREST - KRUSH - Really like this, and wish it had been played, though I suppose it was too much to hope for more than one "house" track from the chart.
