Emmerdale's biggest SOR is the weather!

OK, they have no control over it, but the number of times there's snow in the village in one scene, then it's disappeared for the next scene, only to appear again in another scene.

There's also inconsistency between the weather at the different exterior location sets - e.g., pouring with rain at Home Farm, but glorious sunshine in the village.

Don't know about the North of england but if it was set in Scotland that would be entirely believable Peeing it down one minute, bright and shiny the next. That's just today as well.

Buses. Emmerdale has a very good bus service for two street, remote village, where there's not huge demand for it. In fact Emmerdale has a lot of facilities for a two street remote village.

Lol true about the bus services. In reality (going by villages in my area) Emmerdale would be served by a "call and connect" service where you have to ring for an on demand service where a minibus will come and take you to your nearest main bus stop. In my area there are villages much bigger than Emmerdale which are served by this as they don't have a main bus service.

When they were doing the 'Tate Trash' storyline a few years ago - every day seemed to be rubbish collection day in Emmerdale village.

Bib: That's quite normal where I live. It can be bright and sunny in the village I live in but 2 minutes down the road it can be pouring with rain and vice versa.

That's quite normal for anywhere.

Emmerdale has always had a bus service. When the series was filmed in Arncliffe, real buses were used! All villages are different. My auntie lives in a remote village in somerset and there's a bus route which goes through the village and the area.

For a small Village the pub is full most nights.

I think we're meant to believe the village is bigger than it actually is. :/

What always surprises me is when the B&B is full.

I've got friends who run a B&B and outside of peak season, they're rarely if ever full.

Yes you are right. I have noticed that also.

Exactly, but another poster thinks it's not realistic - I just pointed out that it is.

Thank you. I mentioned it on the Corrie thread.

Why is that Debbeh has so much power over people. Surely by now she should have got over Cameron. Relationships break up dont they? The whole Dingles clan seem to be so scared of her.

Was just reading this and while I'm at it I'm going to say that IMO it's not very realistic that Rhona wouldn't tell her husband about her dependency on painkillers I know she's said it would "break his heart" but it will break his heart in to about 30000 more pieces when he finds out that she's kept it from him!

Aren't relationships about sharing problems and supporting each other... even if she is ashamed of it, surely he's the one person that she could rely on not to judge her and to want to help her through it

Depends where they are really doesn't it? there's a wee village about ten miles from my town which doesn't get a bus at all, others only get them once every couple of hours, and the larger villages have a very regular service. Go up to the Trossachs and further afield and you'll find some places which are lucky to get a bus twice a week, and others where an enterprising local has set up a good service. Emmerdale must be one of the lucky ones.

There's 2 housing estates, cunningly hidden by Sparrow Wood from the pretty part of the village.

I live in the middle of nowhere, and there's a bus that runs too and from the nearest town two times a day. Really perculiar hours though. One at 8am and one at 4pm..

There doesn't appear to be anyone unemployed - they must have the lowest unemployment rate in the Country.

It's also a bit unrealistic for a small village to be able to sustain employment for all of it's residents - no one seems to commute anywhere as they all have jobs in or around the village.

What they've thought there, is that they'll get people into town for work (because of course everyone works 9 to 5 according to bus companies, no one does shifts or Sundays). They're just forgetting that people want to come back

Another SOR is that so many adults in the village don't drive or have cars or any other transport. Gennie can't drive, Chas doesn't have a car (surely she needs to go to the cash and carry sometimes?), neither Amy or Victoria seem to drive or take lessons, and you never see any of the oldies in car either (although they may have health reasons for not driving). Even in towns most people think cars are essential (I'm not one I hate driving, I walk miles and miles) but in small, isolated places it can be hard to get by without one.

I find it funny that no one mentions the snow. There was a scene a couple of months back between Moira and Chas - it was snowing quite heavily and they were getting covered but they appeared to be oblivious to it.

It's not unusual to get snow where I live but you still talk about it, no one is oblivious to the weather.

No one has a garden. Edna's got a wee patch at the front that she tends, but you never see anyone else gardening or talking about doing the garden. Maybe those styles of houses don't tend to have them, but most people in small towns or villages have a garden/drying green or patio, even if they're in flats.

And the school never closes when it snows. You never hear the parents moaning because they've had to pick up the kids from school.
