I think that the difference is that he wanted a baby with Moira and he didn't want one with Amy. He loves Moira and he saw the baby as a chance for him to be a proper dad. Moira ended up wanting to have his baby and knew how much he wanted it - she was never going to question his feelings about the miscarriage because she felt the same way.
I'm not saying that his actions towards Amy weren't appalling - they were, but I think his feelings are different for their baby because he loves Moira. He didn't love Amy and he didn't want a baby with her - it would have been a constant reminder that he had slept with a young girl and had treated her very badly.
IMO he is that good looking
