I'm thinking of getting a (Wi-fi only) Nexus 7, one thing I've heard is that it is not possible to receive Skype calls on it, at least not in the UK. Is this correct and if so why is this?

(Maybe it will be possible with the apparently imminent new Nexus 7?)

Where have you heard this from? It is nonsense. You can make and receive Skype calls on the Nexus 7 no problem whatsoever.

I found reference to it in a few places on the interweb while doing some general research about the Nexus 7. Very pleased to hear it isn't true and so now I'm wondering whether they had been referring to the US - the sites had been quoting ways around it using other apps that only seemed to be applicable to the US, so if it can do it in the UK anyway that might explain it.

There isn't really any reason why Skype over Wi-Fi shouldn't work in any country - it is no different from using it on a PC or laptop. The only thing I can possibly think of is that some mobile networks do specifically block VoIP (and some extend this to Skype too), so it's possible that those references you found were relating to it not being possible over 3G/mobile data. But for Wi-Fi, you'll have no problems here or abroad.

Great, thanks for the clarification, much appreciated.

No worries. Enjoy Skyping! The Nexus 7 is a fab tablet, by the way - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have Skype on my Nexus 7. Haven't used it much to be fair but it works just fine.
