Wanted to watch, but soon as Jason started jumping around the new set I switched over. He's 44. I'm not 15. It's embarrassing to watch.

As for the competition, think I'm right in saying it pays for the show to be made in the first place, so hence they spend a lot of time on it.

I stopped watching when they changed the format to that dire World Tour thing. It needs to be able real sub-normal products that people might actually buy, not just new wild things, which at least they have dialled down.
You need to test cameras and headphones and cookers etc. And it looks like they are getting back to that so I will keep watching from now on.

The reading out all the competition stuff is pretty stupid, and can they only keep adding to it to make it sound more impressive each week? But I understand why they do it, how do you think they get the prizes in the first place? It's not for free.
But now they've done it for the first show they need to dial it back or change the way they do it as it just takes far too long. More bigger things maybe or sell groups of things as 'complete Sony AV system' or 'complete gaming collection' , or even one of each so 2 people can win? It is one of the major selling points of the show though after all.

Jason is rather over the top but tonight's wasn't as bad as he's been in the past. Hopefully the others can rein him in a bit. We need more Jon anyway.Voice of reason that he is.

Thought the rfid thing was a good idea but done badly. At least they mentioned that the card actually belongs to the company in most cases.

Can't watch the gadget show, still annoys me with their love of Apple, remember when the Ipod touch won best hand held gaming device put me right off.
I don't think they mentioned a single Apple product tonight. There were a couple of points where an iPhone was in shot. Is that enough for you to get a good head of steam worked up about?

1) Too many ads they say. I say nonsense as C5 are allowed only the same amount per hour as any other commercial channel and all commercial channels will use the maximum possible in the peak 8pm slot.
I suspect it may be less the total amount of ads, more that the first ad break is very early. Something like six minutes between intro and first bumper? if they shifted them around a bit it would probably seem less intrusive. Plus the 'sponsor bumpers' are effectively extra ads, even if they don't count.

If you don't share Jason's enthusiasm for new technology, you're probably watching the wrong programme.
I do share Jason's enthusiasm for new tech. I just don't share Jason's enthusiasm for Jason. The bit with the noise cancelling headphones and him pretending to be some sort of dubstep DJ was just... embarrassing. It's possible to be enthusiastic, indeed even exuberant without looking like a tit. Sometimes, Jason manages this (particularly when doing the build tasks he occasionally does). Sometimes, he... doesn't.

This isn't Click playing out to a niche audience on BBC News,
*cough* BBC2 these days. Do keep up.

it's an entertainment show on a mainstream channel aimed at a broad family audience.
No argument about that. Doesn't mean it can't be improved though.

As much as it's an admission that the 'World Tour' failed....
Or not. No-one can say either way. Perhaps they just thought "Right. Done that. Let's have another series in the studio."

Not watched the show yet; except first little bit. Why do channels have to start shows early?

..Is internet slang for technology acceptable on a television programme?
Given that it so widely-used in the real world, I think your point is more than a little pedantic.

I suppose it'll be an eye candy bonanza for the gentlemen, what with Polly and Rachel. I wonder how soon in to the first episode they'll crowbar in a gratuitous bikini shot of either of them ?
I'm bored already...i wish Rachel would show off her gadgets!
My irony detected just exploded

Is anyone running a sweep as to when the first apple product is mentioned ?
It's a technology show and Apple still make technology products, right? What a stupid comment then

Am I the only person that actually quite liked the World Tour/All New Gadget Show format?
No. Myself and all the other viewers it got every week liked it too. It's a couple of moaners on here who seemed to watch it every week just to complain about it

No. Carl will no doubt be along at some point to tell you how much he loved it as well
Not just me, of course.

I stopped watching when they changed the format to that dire World Tour thing.
Yeah. Stupid, really. Who wants to know about technology from all around the world

Oh look. People being overly critical of The Gadget Show on Digital Spy Forums. How novel. The main criticisms look even weaker than normal, hilariously..
They're really weird. If I don't like something I don't watch and don't go on forums to talk about it.

*cough* BBC2 these days. Do keep up.
*cough* Still on BBCNews six times a weekend though

Well they've got that in this series, but not made it the only thing they do. Next week seems a bit odd though, that water propulsion thing has been around for years.

Gadget show, not just expensive technology most of us will never see.
But hey I decided after the first 1.5 episodes of the World Tour to give up on it as it wasn't the sort of show I wanted. Maybe it changed after that to showing toasters and phones that you can actually get in this country? I'm back now and it's a hell of a lot better is what I'd say.

If I wanted a pair of good headphones or an action camera or even a start on what different streaming services have to offer I have an idea of what is good now after seeing the show. I'm not likely to want to buy a car glider thing am I. Having one piece for that sort of thing is fine for me, just not more.

As a spin off in addition to the Gadget Show it would work. But not instead of.

Saying that this might all go downhill now!

Watched it earlier. Massive improvement over the dire 'World Tour' format. Better balance of presenters to items as well, and the new studio is actually not half bad - the idea of having a "lab", of sorts, downstairs is actually quite a good one.

I think the "problem" - if it's even a problem - with Jason is that he has to over compensate for the general lack of chemistry between everyone, so he ramps it up a few dozen notches.

Did Suzie Perry tell them where to stick it then? As they have Jon back presumably they tried to get her as well.
Very highly likely she did just that. I think the way the whole debacle of letting her, Jon and Ortis go was handled means she'd never go back.

I haven't watched it yet (and reading these comments, I might not bother !)
Is Jason still wearing those bloody stupid white framed glasses ?
I gather he is still titting about like some toddler who has had too much Sunny Delight.

They ruined it series before last by moving the slot to another day & changing the theme tune mid-series! Then they axed the more interesting presenters and removed the studio element. Tossers.

Just a fun fact

The testing area of the new studio is where the old studio used to be housed and the upstairs bit is part of the old fifth gear production offices, the buildings has a refit to extend the gadget show studios.

They got caught out by the, surely not unexpected, criticism that the show wasn't in HD, they had neither the time nor the but budget to get it ready in time. The world tour series was easier to produce in HD

Got to applaud the producers for recognising the huge mistake of the World Tour & reverting to something akin to the old format. Jon gives the reviews some gravitas, Jason still needs to grow up - as someone stated above he is not a "yoof".
A vast improvement on what went before - thankyou 5 for listening.

I'm glad they've returned to the old format. Rachel is a bit quilt as a presenter and Jason has more chemistry with Polly and Suzi. Polly seems to be back to a number 3 presenter behind Jason and Rachel. Not a bad start to the new series though.

I have exactly the same reaction. Just put the ruddy stuff on a website and shut up about it. Either that or just have one or two items. The huge prize where you get 2-3 versions of effectively the same 50 things just looks like consumerism gone mad and makes me feel a little sick!
I'd question where you would store all of the crap when it arrived? To enter the competition you have to either live in a mansion or a house with an empty double garage

Why do I need 3 pairs of headphones?

As hoped for and commented in the previous WT thread, we have a far more relevant format and normal life product testing. Looking forward to John's tablet test next week and the producers deserve some praise in acknowledging fair criticism and returning to much that made it successful before.

To flog off on ebay - I expect that's where most of the stuff ends up

Well you'd have some very happy friends and family. Assuming you had some or wanted to give stuff away at all!

I seem to remember in the past it was literally just piled up in people's living rooms.

It's the fact that is is over the top that gets people interested. Most people wouldn't expect to win anyway so don't think clearly.

Exactly most people wouldnt expect to win and the question so easy (definitely NOT a matter of skill) that the competition just becomes a lottery. Im sure I read the Gaming Board were going to take action on these type of competitions.

Mind you that was about 3 years ago, and every other mass TV competiton has the same ridiculously easy questions too, just to get as many entrants on the premium phone number as possible.

To avoid falling foul of the rules isnt there also sposed to be "Free Entry at . . . . . ." somewhere?

Things changed. They can do a lot more these days.
There are different rules now. NPN was never the case with phonecalls, just product and even that has changed now sadly enough.

http://about.channel5.com/competitio...and-conditions

And if you look carefully on the screen you can enter by post and with post you have 3 days longer than phone entries to get it in. Mind you stamps are pricey now!

But a lot of shows, especially the ITV ones eg This Morning, David Dickinson, Loose Women all have a free entry online, and that's for big prizes of 50k+

I've been heavily critical of the show in the past, so it's only right I put my hand up and say that this is a big improvement.

It's far from perfect, but it's heading in the right direction.

I'm a young thespian (not really) and my partner's father thinks it's most weird that I dislike cars and have no interest in them whatsoever. Despite this I love watching Top Gear & was never keen on Fifth Gear. If the truth be said nobody could care less about the bloody things. It wasn't a popular show, just a shoddy rip-off.

I got into the Gadget Show a few years ago and found it most enjoyable, other than the lame competition segments. I found Ortis & Suzi most entertaining. I'm not interested in gadgets either.

The point I'm making is that you could have legends like Stephen Fry hosting a show about cool gadgets and it still wouldn't get mainstream viewership..

We have had Stephen Fry do that with Gadget Man, not to mention the top x gadgets shows he's done 2? of in the past.

But I know what you mean. There is a limited audience. Some of them want young blondes running around in wetsuits and some want things played around with in a basement set. It's getting the balance to attract all those people that is the hard bit.

I was trying to be unjustifiably ironic. I like Stephen Fry, but not gadgets.
