It's because your PC email software is doing some spam filtering whereas the iPad doesn't or does it poorly.
You've got two options: both of which involve moving to GMail (or outlook.com but I find GMail's spam filter slightly better).
A) Either move your email account to GMail permanently. Advantages include: proper support for email, contacts and calendar, webmail access, both POP and IMAP access, easy setup on most devices and
good spam filtering. You also get to keep the account even if you change ISPs.
B) Keep your ntlworld email but use GMail as a middleman. This means setting up a GMail account that collects email from your ntlworld account. Your iPad then retrieves from the gmail account which will have scrubbed your inbox for spam. You can also configure the gmail account so it can send email that looks like it came from the ntlworld account.
Personally, I recommend option A.
