Pioneer BDP150
A friend of mine has bought this blu ray player, everything is fine with it except it has no netflix on it only youtube and picassa.
Tried an update, but it's on the latest already. He has followed the instructions to do with netflix, but the option just isn't there! Does anybody know how he can get netflix on there? |

It's confusing. Nowhere in the specs on the Pioneer website or the product brochure you can view there does it mention Netflix on the BDP-150. Yet it's in the manual you can also view from the website.
There are reviews on line that mention Netflix. They also say the remote has a dedicated Netflix button. And sure enough there is a picture of said remote with a big red NETFLIX button. Bizarrely there is another review that also mentions the dedicated button but has a picture of a remote with a black FUNCTION button where the other picture I saw had the Netflix button and no Netflix button I could see. Go figure! Makes you wonder if they had Netflix at one time then took it off. Or were planning to have Netflix but never released it in the UK?? |

I must have been looking at the same sites as well, because I couldn't see Netflix mentioned in the specifications, only You Tube & Picassa.
Which made me think that it wasn't released for the UK market. May have been US market only for Netflix. |

May have been US market only for Netflix. http://docs.pioneer.eu/Manuals/BDP_1...0_GBRB_manual/ and go to page 38 it talks about Netflix. It says at the bottom right of the page that Netflix is available in the US, Canada and UK. But yet the specs page http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/42...0-K/specs.html under Network Features just mentions Picassa and YouTube. Confused, you will be.... |

The BDP-150 doesn't have Netflix. The Netflix instructions in the manual refer to the BDP-450 which is the player I have that does Netflix. This is the problem when the manuals cover several machines with different features.

Plus there is nothing in the manual to say that Netflix is restricted to the 450 model only. If you look on page 38 of the manual I linked to above it has a close up image of both the 450 and 150 remotes with a clearly marked NETFLIX button on the 150 remote and no such button on the 450 remote! And again on page 12 of the manual are full images of both remotes. Both remotes have a button indicated with the number 7. On page 13 of the manual under number 7 it says "UK Models - Netflix Others - Function". No distinction between 450 and 150 models, as there is for some other buttons. So given all the above is it any wonder there is confusion over whether or not Netflix is supported or not if even the makers are providing contradictory information? |

Well I'm glad that you're all as confused as me and my friend.
My friend contacted the seller on eBay who he bought it from and they've replied saying that Netflix isn't available on the newer BDP 150's, only the older one's! Why would Pioneer remove this is beyond me as they are in fact slightly downgrading the product imo |

I have a vague recollection rattling around in the nether regions of my brain that Netflix UK uses a different DRM system to the US version. I wonder if the original Netflix enabled models used Netflix.com with the US DRM system and then became useless when the .co.uk version of Netflix arrived with a different DRM system.
And instead of upgrading the machines to suit they took the feature away? Or something like that. |

This is confusing some reviews of the 150 mention Netflix. My 450 certainly has Netflix and supports Super HD and 3D, the 450 remote also has a dedicated Netflix button.

There obviously has to be some reason for all this confusion. I would have thought that if it worked they would have kept it if it was on the original run of these models. |

Just been doing some googling. Can't find any information yet as to what may be the situation with Pioneer and Netflix but interestingly on the Netflix website there is no mention of Pioneer in the list of supported devices.
Go here https://signup.netflix.com/Watch?lnk...&trkid=1256502 and hover over Blu-Ray players and a box pops up mentioning LG, Panasonic, Phillips, Samsung and Sony but not Pioneer. |
