EastEnders ratings DECLINING
Everyone knows EE ratings are going dowm, but according to the figures from last night, EE got 4.89m viewers last night!! http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s1...y-ratings.html
In 2010, EE had high ratings (between 8-11m viewers every episode). This year had the worst ratings!! The BBC need to act IMO. |

Well there's no denying the show is poor at the min . But I think a lot of people were enjoying the sunshine as well .
Even the episode thread was dead

2013 is getting just as bad as 2006 when ratings fell to 3 million. I hope Newman gets the boot.

That is bad anything under 4 million for EE is a warning sign.
Does anyone know the lowest ratings ever record for the soap? |

Not surprised.
It needs to have less misery, more humour. And likeable characters played by actors who can actually deliver their lines how the writer intended. |

I hope the decline continues. I didn't watch last night's episode (Monday's was enough) but, like me, I'm sure most who saw the snake escape at the end of Monday weren't in a hurry to see the thrilling climax. This series is creatively at rock bottom and at long last the ratings are reflecting the terrible quality. EastEnders has NEVER in 28 years been as bad as it is right now.
It's time to either fix this series, a seemingly impossible feat for the BBC, or axe it altogether. Julia Smith and Tony Holland would be disgusted if they knew what their gritty serial had turned into. |

< 5m is a serious warning sign for them. If this continues, then the show will have returned to a low point and at risk. Last night's episode was a farce.

To be fair, the world is completely different from when EE first started till now. It had to evolve or die, as all the other soaps have done, to fit into the modern world.
Plus the soap format has been around for awhile now... ![]() Sorry. I don't buy that. You can evolve a series without getting away from its core mission statement. This series is EastEnders in name only. Why would someone who tuned into the gritty and hard hitting EastEnders of the 1980's and 1990's want to sit through this tripe? |

Last nights was bad, the whole episode was a mixture of Keeping up Appearences and an episode of Neighbours. Dedicating time to a snake, Dot's boring speech about religion which took up to much time and then the duff duff which was one of the worst ive seen. It may have been good weather but thats no excuse fior the shit the show gave us last night. Either Newman is deluded or its out of her hands, for someone that has worked on EE for 20 years surely she must realise that episode did not have one trace of what the show is about and what has made it a success. The spoilers in the next couple of weeks at least sound interesting but getting viewers back is gonna be difficult. A whole new perspective is needed at that show and until that happens EE isnt gonna get back to the days we know it can.

A crap figure for a crap episode, I appreciate Newman for seeing the mistakes and in trying to rebuild families and realtionships but its taking to long and even stories like Liam's gang that could of been so much better was a damp squib. Newman needs to go or go back to her old job, how can the BBC be happy with ratings like that, an absolute disgrace and this is the worst ever time ive known to be an EE fan. Come on its time to take action!!!!

Plus the soap format has been around for awhile now... I don't think she understands the show at all. She keeps talking about "injecting warmth" into the show, but if last night was her idea of that, then she can keep those injections to herself because the show was a disaster last night. She doesn't seem to understand the history or the appeal of the show at all, and for someone who has supposedly been working backstage on it for 20 years...what on Earth has she been watching all those years? EastEnders is about melodrama, grit, suspense and gripping storylines which raise important issues. It's not supposed to be a Carry On film, and that's exactly what LN has turned it into. She needs to be shown the door before the show is wrecked and beyond repair. |

When Emmerdale does better showing a blue screen to half the country...this is all new heights of embarrassing for EastEnders

I remember when the duff duff were exciting, now its a snake escaping or Denny putting hula hoops in his bag. They need to action, Newman vision for the show is making it worse and its time she and the storyline team left.

Why has Newman not responded to all the criticisms?

I gave last night's EE a big swerve the moment I heard it was a Dot episode.
Doesn't sound like I missed much either. |

Yes there was sun and a clash and we have I-player etc... But how many of the people who sat through it will actually recommend catching up on it to anyone - or even tune in themselves on Thursday.
I agree with the posters above Eastenders needs less humour! It's attempts at comedy are awful. That doesn't mean the characters have to all be depressed, mean and bitchy. Eastenders works best when bad things happen to good people! |
