Not really. I don't use my laptop much these days, only for productive stuff. In the past I used my laptop for bowsing the net and checking emails. These days I tend to do those things on my phone/tablet and therefore I only use the laptop if I'm doing research or typing, doing presentations etc. So if it's something productive, I'll use my laptop and if I want to do something based on consumption then I'll use a mobile device. However, I would say that it was the smartphone rather than the tablet that made me use my laptop less and I've used those kind of phones probably since 2008.

I've not ditched my laptop, but I certainly use it a lot less than I did before I got a tablet.

My laptop went away to get repaired for a few weeks, before then I hadn't even looked at my tablet but didn't put it down whilst I was without my laptop. Didn't think I'd go back to the laptop but I have done.

IMHO No. Having played with a Nexus 7 for about a week, I've found it so limited and so frustrating that it's a relief to get back to a conventional computer. The tablet's just about tolerable for a few simple games but not much else. (Other opinions are available )

I use my tablet mainly for general surfing, email, internet radio, podcast listening, reading books/magazines, on demand TV and Skype. For all those things it works as well or better than a laptop imo.

I don't play games, so can't really comment on that

Consuming media is good enough a lot of times for a lot of people. Nobody feels like creating 24/7, IMO.

No. I've played with my parents' iPad and it's way too limited for me. I'll stick with good old keyboard and mouse for as long as I can.

There was a BBC radio report that tablet users tended to dwell and read new and stuff far more compared to laptop/PC users who would be far more actively seeking stuff out.

They very much ties in with my tablet usage.
It is not really worth the hassle doing anything but base simpler things when a proper PC is to hand..

Since I got an iPad in 2010 I pretty much stopped using a laptop - but still use my desktop almost everyday. Use a Nexus 7 for 'consuming' but prefer the extra size of my current 3rd generation iPad for typing.

I plan to upgrade my desktop PC and possibly buy another Mac desktop within 6 months but doubt I will ever buy another laptop.

Have you ditched your laptop for your tablet?

No, because they are complimentary rather than competitive and a tablet is highly portable and can act as an ebook reader and audiobook player but for more serious or involved work a laptop or PC is still required.

Maybe it is often this?

Plonked in front of the TV all the tme?
Answer - Yes = tablet is of good use..
Answer - No = tablet too limited.

This may be true, but I am definitely finding less reasons to power on my PC of late. I only have a Nexus 7, but it covers a lot of bases for me. The PC generally goes on to rip my media collection (which I'm still in the midst of), for Linux distro enthusiasm, and for some retro gaming. But the breadth of ability of the Nexus means this type of device is only going to get more compelling as a main unit. I even read a while ago that LibreOffice is going to be coming to Android. That will be very interesting indeed.

But I do still love my desktop.

i took the option in the middle and ditched the laptop for a Chromebook (Samsung 3 series arm cpu), the chrome remote desktop works great for connecting to my mac mini and i can play games like civ 5 and football manager this way with no issues, the Chromebook boots in about 10 seconds and the batter lasts a good 6-8 hours.

I went the other way and ditched my Asus Transformer for a Sony Vaio 11 Ultrabook, a hybrid touchscreen W8

Mine is a cheaper i5 version - I never use the onscreen keyboard if I can help it and the keyboard doubles as a useful stand - I take it with me on holiday - it is brilliant for watching films on the plane/train.

I prefer the full functionality of a laptop over the tablet I had. OH ditched her 10" tablet for an iPad mini and loves it.

I use my tablet for facebook and games, but I find it too restrictive for typing and forums and so on. When I bought it, I thought I would use it more than the laptop, but hasn't turned out that way.

Asus seem to be way ahead of the game yet again, with the Vivobook.

No. In fact I have just ordered a £1k ultrabook... I couldn't possibly do all my uni work on a tablet!

Can be interpreted other ways but "About 85% of tablet users watch TV while using a tablet," tells you tablets are a very non serious thing.

But are we post peak yet?

Neither could I. My mum asked me last summer if I wanted an iPad but I said no as it would be useless for what I do. That's one reason I went for the 11" Macbook Air as a second computer instead. I have done loads of college work on it.

I haven't ditched it but I probably use it less than I did before.

I could be baffled why top end tablet buyers don't insist on buying an Asus Transformer.
But obviously going the whole hog and getting a light laptop is better for many.

I had to use my Nexus 7 for a week when my laptop stopped working, and I was surprised by how easily it replaced a lot of the typical laptop-only activities I usually do. I was even more surprised by the fact I was getting over four hours of battery from the device, which sounds low but really isn't considering all of that was streaming video over the Internet.

That being said, while it was a decent replacement for a week, I couldn't have one completely replace a laptop. I do a lot of writing and a tablet just doesn't cut it. Not without a keyboard connected, anyway.

The way I see it, a tablet is perfect for media consumption, light gaming and so forth--generally casual uses.

Yeah I have a nexus 7 which is just fine for doing a bit of browsing, forums, checking emails, Facebook etc.

For anything more serious, it has to be a laptop for me!

My tablet I only use on sleepless nights but during the day I use my laptop. My phone has a 5 inch screen so if I'm out I use that instead.
