Anyone else notice the looks/bitchiness between Luisa and Karren in the boardroom last night? When Luisa was being scathing about corporate-ness, and Karren pulled her up on it.

Team Karren!

Absolutely. Well done Karren

Or was the girl sitting with the Barclays CEO the "luv child of Karen" she looked very much like her...lol

Luisa's rant showed an alarming lack of awareness (although, let's be clear, it had little bearing on her actual performance in the task or the outcome of it). Even though he likes to portray the image of being corporate, Amstrad, Amsprop and all Sugar's ventures mean he is essentially part of the corporate world too. As is Karren. As was Nick with his PR company. Slagging off the world that the people who are judging you exist in doesn't seem like the best route to success.

I don't suspect Louisa will be getting an invite to Karen's "Women in Business" Club where all sorts of rules regulations and standards apply.

Yet Karen doesn't apply these same rules to the male candidates. Strange

Good for Karen. Luisa sounded like a silly teenager last night and deserved the metaphorical kick up the arse that she got.

She was acting as if she wanted nookie with Neil too

What was it Karren fired back at her? Something about "I hope you don't ever need to go and stand in front of those bank managers" or something?

Karen said " I hope you don't take that attitude with you should you ever need to borrow money from a bank" or words to that effect.

It was the look that went with it though!

Luisa deserved all she got. Well done to Karren.

Luisa is a really obnoxious person, I can't understand why she is still in the show.

Well, because she was only in the boardroom this one time, and out of the three of them, she was the least culpable for the failure of the task.

I loved it when she said that. Also when told Francesca can hear whats coming out your mouth (can't remember her exact words) but it was good.

I wouldn't wanna go out for a drink with her, but she's a good candidate, ticks all the boxes [she won't win though]

She said:

"You'll find that a rough attitude to have when you're at the bank asking for an investment in your business." -evil eyebrows-

i think luisa was right in what she was saying but really did not articulate it very well

a lot of the corporate world is meaningless buzzwords , LS pulls the candidates up on that almost every boardroom

it is a dangerous tactic tho given the theme of the show

There's an element of truth in that, but funnily enough those of us who work in the corporate world don't use those hackneyed terms anywhere near as much as the candidates do. Regardless of whether you're working in the corporate world or not, blagging is blagging - only in corporate circles ittends to be blagging with bigger budgets. Francesca was totally blagging throughout the task last night - she had no idea what she was saying half the time. That's just a blagger using so-called corporate speak, but it's not actually any worse than much of what Adam Corbally was doing last year - just as much bullshit, but less fancy jargon.

I am genuinely shocked Luisa said things like this. Especially on a show like this. That was entirely unprofessional and THANK GOD Karren lectured her in front of all the candidates

There seemed to be no rehearsals or anything last night from either team, they just seemed to mumble and fumble their way through.

They had hardly any time, though. The whole of the day before was spent putting the pieces in place but without the time to properly think about how they would be smoothly delivered. The teams had maybe that evening and the early part of the following morning to prep, and much of the latter was spent on setting up.

As I've said, I think this was one of the toughest tasks the teams have ever been asked to do. Selling tasks are comparatively simple. Preparing for pitches isn't that difficult as you only have to present for a few minutes. But running an entire training day? Tough gig.

its not as complicated as they made it look tbh

the issue mentioned above about preparation is important tho , hard to foster a good environment to promote communication skills if you spend half the day fumbling thru your own delivery

Seriously, it is, unless you're a professional trainer, particularly if you're doing it for the first time. I've run in-house training sessions before (so no faffing around with venues or external suppliers) where I've known my subject matter inside out. Preparing and delivering that at a day's notice is not easy. Doing what the teams had to do here, way out of their comfort zone, and doing it credibly in front of a group of professionals for an entire day - that's hard. Although not ordering the sumo suits and wine tasting might have helped ...

I have done it so maybe it just feels easier to me having the experience of running these type of events , I had no training or anything for this btw , just kinda made it up as I went along

a lot of it is about your own presentation skills , hard to get the attendees to buy into what you are doing if you look unprepared and disorganised yourself

But did you have some level of knowledge/expertise in the subject matter? The teams clearly didn't here, which is why I think it's understandable that they struggled. Remember that most of them are most comfortable in selling type tasks - a different skill set (well, mostly).

I think you made a point on another thread that you don't have to do fancy activities like wine tasting to demonstrate communication & teambuilding skills - you're absolutely right there. There was nothing wrong with Francesca throwing money at the problem, but she never stopped to think about why she was spending money. What Leah's team did with the blind bowls and so on was a good example. A bit naff, yes, but Myles and Neil built an exercise based around trust and communication that basically cost only a few quid.

Or the old trust circle, which everyone who's ever worked for a corporate will have done at some point. That costs about, let's see ... nothing.
