Keeping tomatoes fresh?
I have just bought some delicious tomatoes from Aldi "on the vine". I have had a small salad sandwich for lunch and have half a tomato left. I have tried all sorts of ways to keep half a tomato fresh - once cut into, they seem to go really ripe and squidgy. I know it would be easier to eat a whole tomato but I only had one slice of bread so didnt want a whole tomato. I have tried:-
-wrapping the left tomato in foil -wrapping it in cling film -putting it in a polystyrene container with lid (the sort you get mushy peas in when you have a fish and chip takeaway) -putting it in a tupperware box -putting it in the fridge, as it is. Has anyone any other ideas that will keep half a tomato fresh please - thanks in advance. |

Cut side down on a cold plate in the fridge. It won't last forever but it will be alright the next day.

I use a sharp knive to slice off a slither. I do the same with onions ,lettuce, cabbage etc. so you get rid of the part that's been open to the air.
