Good show tonight
The Murray stuff was pretty funny

Farming Sim was recommended to me when I pre-ordered GTA V. Yup, quite a good show this week.

A question, which I think I already know the answer to - is the mic they use in the stand-up and SWLTS rounds just a prop? They've all got radio mics and there's no change in volume when they're doing a gag which involves them changing the distance between them and the mic.

I agree with you on both points.

"I wonder if Kim really likes tennis"
"I wonder if my mum is watching me play today"...

Agree with both of these comments. Impressionists seem less quick witted than stand ups and more reliant on regurgitating scripts. When they can't think of anything funny on their feet they resort to saying something bland but as someone else thinking that's enough to make it funny, which it doesn't. Impression is a totally different skill to stand up and therefore doesn't work for me on a programme built around stand up comedians.

Yes, they were the prize ones and Kim seemed to find the mother joke especially funny.

I didn't used to think much of Andy Parsons, (aside from a Churchill ad joke after which I nearly fell off the sofa laughing) but he has done very well over the last two weeks.

You don't mean the Savile one, do you? I noticed that gag tonight about old TV mentioned Glitter, but avoided Savile.

I forgot it was on - doh! This is the new batch of BBC2 episodes right?

Why do only 2 of the comedians (usually the less well-known/poorer ones) take part in the stand-up round these days?

I have to say that I thought Farming Simulator 2013 was a game that Ed Byrne had just made up

Ed Byrne is consistently the best on this show right now.

Shorter rounds to get more in and it uses up less of people's stand-up comedy material per week - Hal did a fairly long chunk this week.

They always get Milton to do some stuff...he is one of the guv'nors though these days.

I agree, Ed Byrne always puts in a good performance and would be welcome as a permanent fixture on there.

Andy Parsons has also improved with each series, perhaps Frankie and Howard going has allowed him to come to the forefront more .

That farming sim was dearer than GTA V on Amazon when I looked yesterday, crackers!

Am I going mad or did Andy Parsons use the 'we should say we're voting for the Lib Dems and then when we don't say 'now you know we feel' on MTW before last night and only very recently?

Anyway thought it was good last night - liked Scenes we'd like to see, though my favourite line was Milton's 'If it wasn't for me you'd all be speaking German...that's right said the German teacher!'

I think the return since September has been the best the show's had for ages. I think having more guests helps. I like Chris Addison on other stuff (thought he was very good guest hosting HIGNFY and enjoyed his times on Just A Minute) but don't think he's that great on this one.

I don't think he did - but if he did it's worth repeating...

I have to admit on hearing it I thought 'He's done that joke before hasn't he?' Maybe not this series, but if not then the last series...

It's a bit of a cult thing (Note NSFW)

Murray tweeted this afternoon he's been trying to buy a copy but it's sold out everywhere...

I believe Andy Parsons did the Nick Clegg/promise joke on the 4th July. Really, really poor for the MTW editors not to notice that!

The stand-up round is them doing a segment of their stand-up act. I think the regulars have run out of material they are willing to use; either we've seen it all (or all the broadcastable bits), or else they want to hold the rest back for live events. Occasionally Andy Parsons will still do one: I imagine that's because he has a new idea he wants to get out there and asks to do it.

Yes; there was more than one joke like that, to the point where I wondered if I was watching a repeat. I don't recall where I saw it first, though. I've watched a number of Edinburgh-related stand-up shows recently, so it may have been one of them.

I liked the Andy Murray and the Farming Simulator bits, hilarious! I didn't think the larger guy who did the bit about football was funny - or rather, his delivery was off. The lady was funny when responding to others but in the performance round her jokes were really weak.

I have to admit I own it and he's right, it's utterly tedious and laborious but so addictive

No standing ovation for Andy Murray this time, eh?

And looks like he stayed for the whole show too.

There's another newcomer on tonight.

Ah yes Romesh? I saw his stand-up recently and thought he was very good. Of course though aside from 1 round this is slightly different to stand-up so will be interesting to see how he gets on.

Yes, him. I saw a bit of his routine on Russell Howard's Good News.

You've gotta love the little cheers in the audience whenever someone makes a joke about something like The Only Way is Essex.
