Hi.
My daughters just bought me a Kindle. I love it.
As we have a holiday not far off I will need a charger to take with me. I have have problems in the past (a blown up mp3 player)
Could you recommend a reliable one please.
Thanks

I think any micro usb charger will do, from an old phone etc, I know at the moment my wife uses my Kindle charger to charge her mobile phone, and so far no problems.

My mobile phone is charged via a cable with USB plug, and a mains plug with a USB socket.I use this plug on holiday for my phone, iPad and Kindle,

How long will you be on holiday? It will go several weeks without needing to be charged.

That is what I was wondering. My daughter says hers goes for weeks reading every day. We will only be away for 11 nights so think to be sure I will just fully charge it and hope it lasts out

Thanks for the replies

It may not be the cheapest around (don't know) but Argos carry one which is produced by Amazon specifically for Kindle use, but it is probably just the same as those supplied for some phones.

With the wi-fi turned off (airplane Mode) the Kindle should last about a month when fully charged.

It depends on how much you use it. It will last longer for someone who uses it for 30 mins a day compared to someone who uses it for say 4 hours a day.

specifically the number of page turns. the kindle uses no power displaying a static page.

the battery life is somewhere in the region of 7000-8000 page turns.

That is interesting. Thanks. I doubt I shall get anywhere near that many pages

Is that true of all Kindle versions, or only the basic one? What about Paperwhite and Fire?

Doubt you'll need to charge it if only away for a couple of weeks, but I use a standard USB charger, think I paid about £3 off ebay for it.

True of the paperwhite - other than for its light (but that is minimal) but the Fire is an LCD screen so uses power all the time it's on.

Same here - I take a USB charger that does my Kindle, Phone, Ipod, As Phone (Samsung) and Kindle use the same cable, I only need 2 cables. )Plus, SWMBO has the same type of phone so can use my charger & cable).

Anything to avoid paying O'Leary extra dosh on Ryanair!

My Kindle is now 2.5 years old and I have to charge it weekly. But when I travel I always have my USB charger for my phone anyway, so that solves that problem. I'd get one of those and then you are prepared, should you need to charge it for whatever reason.

Bear in mind a Kindle page is not a paper page (not usually but can be, but I suspect flagpole was referring to the original style Kindle pages).

Thanks
True I do use the default size. Tried smaller but went back again

It actually uses less power to change a page, i believe if more of the page is the same colour as the previous page.

7,000-8,000 page turns, refers to updates to the screen i guess. they are quoted in the specs on some review sites. i'm more trying to just convey the ball park rather than exactly how much you'll be able to read.

wifi and light off obviously.

I have the kindle fast charger, costs more than a normal charger but charges my fire hd in less than 4 hrs from empty.
I also use this for my phone and my mifi.

A normal charger should suffice if you charge overnight (top up).

If you will be around computers you can trust, you could use a microUSB to USB cable (you must have one of those) to plug the Kindle in and charge it like that if there is an emergency. I am saying you can trust, because there's malware that likes to jump on removable drives and add itself to autorun.

I may be wrong but would it be possable to charge up the kindle using a microUSB to USB cable if there is a USB socket in the TV in the hotel room?

It might be possible, but it depends on how the port is set up I think.
