Please may I have your advice,

My charity has been given a donation of a Toshiba TV. There was no documentation or remote, but we finally "worked out" the oneforall codes.

We need to know the model of the TV for insurance purposes.

However more importantly we have two sockets I do not recognise. One is labelled "scart" but the socket is like a slightly stretched HDMI socket. The other is labled "component" but this is like a 3.5 mm audio jack. Are these a sockets for Toshiba adapters that convert standard connections to the back of their TV?

In regard to the model, I have done searching on the web but although I find many tvs that match the screen size, none match the connections.
It does have a sticker that says ">pc< V66A005xxxxx" <edited with "x"s in case it is the serial number> I thought that would help but a google brings up no hits.

it has iplayer and youtube option in the menu
it has 3d options in the menu (dont know if it is)
4 hdmi
one empty "dvb common interface"
NO VGA!!!!!
One of the hdmi is labelled RPC
A number of audio inputs
TV signal in input, and a couple of other no relevant bits
All the sockets are on the side or along the bottom

It's strange that the TV label is missing.
The serial number is usually printed on a white background whilst stuck to a larger black label on the back of the TV.
This usually has the model number on the top line under TOSHIBA.

The slightly stretched HDMI socket is indeed a mini-SCART connector that will require an adapter to the full sized SCART connector.
The Component connector is a 3-way 3.5mm jack plug that supports a video signal+stereo audio pair without requiring the space of 3 phono connectors on the tv.

One of the HDMI sockets might have ARC ( Audio Return Channel ) but the only reference to RPC I know of is Region Playback Control.
This is for DVD players to limit what region the DVD is set for. 1=North America 2=Most of Europe ..etc

If the model number isn't mentioned in the TV menu setup screen under "system information", you could make a note of the firmware number and search for that.
It may narrow the search down to a couple of model ranges.
You can than have a look at the manuals for those models on the toshiba support website to get a picture of the TV connections that matches yours.

I believe Toshiba ranges VL,WL,XL,YL,ZL have 55" models.

Feel a little bit silly. With you post in mind, I looked again at the back and thought again about it not having mounting points but just a bulky hook mechanism (we don't have what it was meant attach to), and then realised I was not looking at the back of the unit but some third party (?) mounting mechanism. We managed to detach it and found we were the owners of a 55yl863

You would not want vga input -- at this screen size it would look dreadful , use hdmi to connect your pc .

Excellent opportunity to sell on but just to be fair to potential buyers ( despite its size ) this is actual only a budget TV !

How so?

VGA is perfectly able to match or exceed the resolution of HD TV, And can match it for quality of picture too given the right kit.

Sorry, but utter nonsense - VGA is just as good as HDMI - as long as the TV supports the same resolutions as HDMI does, not all sets do.

I've used, and set up for customers, many dozens of TV's as monitors on numerous different computers - as such I've used either VGA or HDMI as appropriate. Where both are available, try both, sometimes HDMI is better, sometimes VGA is, other times you can't tell any difference.

Incidentally, I'm typing this via VGA at 1080 resolution, despite both monitor and computer having HDMI, and a spare HDMI lead sat not more than 8 feet away - as you can't see any difference I don't see the point in expending even such a minimal effort to swap the lead over.

We need VGA/dsub for the laptops of ome visiting guests when they give a presentation. Interesting that most now have digital outputs

It would need to be extremely poor quality for there to be a problem.

We did have one 42" screen that people used to work on a document and they preferred to have the analogue dsub of one laptop over the digital dvi of another. I never compared the two Images myself but I was surprised
