EU roaming message from Formby???
I've been to the beach today at Formby Point nr Southport.
I noticed on my way back to the car that I had a EU Roaming message from my Network Provider (3). It was the standard how much it cost to send and return calls within the EU etc. I was baffled on how I could roam on to a foreign network from here? Isle of Mann maybe??? |

So what? Bit of a pointless comment. Newcastle is in EU, should I get a roaming message too now?
Surely Isle of Man is too far away to get a Manx signal in Formby Point? |

It's not unheard of to receive signals from abroad in the UK. |

Even though Isle of Man isn't in the EU, the roaming prices are the same as e.g. when you go to Germany. So maybe they just send the same message (just a guess)?

You're lucky I'm not originally from here, so I totally agree!

A couple of years ago, I got a "Welcome to Turkey" roaming message in Rhodes airport. I had to double check we'd arrived at the right place..

There have been other reports of this happening recently in different parts of the country. Seems to be an issue/bug in Three' s systems. Not seen any reports of anyone being charged though.

I've found my phone roaming on Irish networks once or twice near Aberystwyth once or twice, and on the coast of Angelsey. They would only show in a network scan at night.

When you are on the beach at Ainsdale / Formby you are a long way out of town and you are hidden by the sand dunes and forest ( in some parts of the beach ) so your phone will hunt down the next best signal which could easily be IOM or even Ireland .
Dublin is circa 120 miles from Formby so it will probably will have been Manx reception you picked up . |

They barely speak English, so it's pretty much the same as being abroad
