Sell out? He sold out doing TV spots for A Team

It's tough being an 'artist'... not everyone can be Bill Hicks

You don't play the guitar, do you?

I dare you to watch this whole video (I know, it's 11 minutes, see if your attention span can handle it) and come back and tell me Taylor's a better guitarist:

For the record, I find 90% of his music bland and boring. But one thing he ain't is inferior to Taylor sodding Swift in the guitar department.

I can't understand his the acclaim he receives consider his album was critically mauled.

Good review that exposes just what a load of crap his "authenticity" is.

I value authenticity proper. Bands that ACTUALLY have been together crafting material and have worked through the bad times and the **** pub gigs.

Yep. Sheeran's snobbishness really is laughable.

ITs not snobbishness. Im snobby myself of pop music. Im happy to admit it. His problem is that he thinks he's above pop music when he really isnt. What he is peddling is commercial, brainless, pop dirge the same as Britney bloody Spears.

Which is why his snobbishness is laughable.

I always find it funny that he uses a 3/4 size guitar (i.e. a kids/learning one) obviously to make himself look bigger. It looked even more ridiculous with Taylor Swift alongside him playing a normal-sized one!

He knows he's nothing but pop. Why the heck would he be duetting with Taylor Swift and 'writing' songs for One Direction if that weren't the case??

Sheeran perfectly filled a gap in the pop market.

It's his attitude towards those that haven't made it the way he has. If it bothered him the way he proclaims in his songs he wouldn't be gigging on shows like X-Factor and BGT.

I agree with this! There's really something about him.

He hasn't 'sold out' because he's collaborating with Taylor Swift, he sold out in 2011 after being 'underground' for so long. But I totally agree, he acts like he's above pop music but he's giving songs to One Direction, collaborating with Taylor Swift and peddling out teen-fodder guitar pop. I actually like some of his songs, but there's something about him I don't like. I have a mate from school who plays the live circuit, supports bands who are starting out etc. who's a similar style and I actually think he's better, god knows how Ed is so popular. I guess it's just the luck of a couple of good songs (Lego House is terrible though).

He should shave that ginger bum fluff off his face though....not a good look on stage!

Forget egg woman, Given it's almost summertime, theoretically someone could have assassinated Ed Sheeran with a magnifying glass.

For want of a better topic I'd say that this performance was the highlight of the show. Interesting contrast between the scruffy Sheeran and the immaculate Swift.

A year ago I'd probably never heard of Taylor Swift now I'm a fan. She's a good performer. Her stuff is a pleasant contrast to the screaching that so often passes for singing nowadays, and she always, but always, looks great. Sheeran could learn a lot.

I agree on all of this.

The irony is his duet partner Taylor Swift has been compared to the next Joni Mitchell (Canadian singer/songwriter who wrote about personal relationships famous for dating a string of famous people in the music industry (David Crosby; James Taylor; David Geffen; Don Henley; Jackson Browne; Graham Nash; Tom Rush ...).

"Commercial" - such a swear word for some isn't it? Maybe, just maybe, he has food to buy, a mortgage, a utility bill to pay, and fancies the odd night out. Maybe he's also thinking the average peak lifespan for a "pop star" is a few years at best and he needs to make hay while the sun shines?

Or, just because he's a musician, isn't he entitled to earn an honest buck as he sees fit?

Read through the thread just to see if someone was sad enough to bring his gingerness into it. Of course someone did! Sigh.

But yea, the new Bob Dylan? The OP must be about 14.

Quite. He's just greasing the cogs of the manufactured pop conveyor-belt machine itself.

Muse probably have enough money to buy a small african country, but they never sold out, cashing in their morals for pre-bought and written pop fodder.

And I could name many MANY other bands the same.
