Egg - timing
Tony_Burke

It seems strange that the timing of the egg throwing came just before the final 3 acts. With the help of twitter the viewing figures increased massively as a result.

Those with cynical minds may think this was some sort of stunt but would Simon Cowell do such a thing?

The "it was staged" bandwagon was parked up last night and people have been clambering on it ever since.

It came in the performance that the violinist was appearing in. She wouldn't have been able to do it in any other one

On SKY News the article on BGT last night was on the egg-thrower not on who won; with the only mention of who actually won, tagged on to the very end of the piece.

Shame for Attraction - as winners it should be about them.

O/p, it was my FIRST thought, even though when I voiced it, people said to me 'Why would Cowell stage an egg being thrown at him?'

I couldn't say why, but there was just something about the whole thing... the pointlessness, the fact that it was someone on the inside etc etc etc.

Was it to boost the ending of the show, or to get Richard and Bob (or whatever) the sympathy vote/ more attention, so that he can put a record out and actually make something ongoing from this series? Who knows.

It was strange that it was 3/4s through an act but they hardly batted an eyelid and carried on as if nothing happened. As if they knew something was going to happen

Brilliant!

And Cowell only wore jeans because he knew he was getting egged right?

Yeah, LOL... I was wondering why Cowell was sat there in a bright yellow Macintosh coat and galloshes. Ha ha.

You also have to assume that all those extra people that weren't interested enough to watch and only tuned in because of the egg stunt somehow felt the urge to spend money on a vote...

The bain of every conspiracy theorist... logic.

Its not all about votes it is also about viewing figures

I don't watch these kind of programmes, but hearing about this on Sky News, it's obvious Cowell stage managed it to happen.
Can't believe anyone actually believes it's real!

Are viewing figures down?

You don't honestly believe that Simon's idea to get people talking about the show was to get some woman to stand up and throw eggs at him do you...?

If you did watch you'd know that the show is over and so there's sod all reason to create publicity and no viewing figures to impact.

Yet, as someone pointed out, no one's talking about who won, just Cowell.

Yep, brilliantly staged and conceived publicity stunt - a disgruntled previous contestant, who nobody realised at the time so sort of loses out on effect, throws eggs at him.

Brilliant - couldn't come up with a better publicity stunt if you tried!

It may be over this year but it will be back next year and SC thrives on publicity, contrived controversy and viewing figures.

Why on earth would the violin player agree to do this for SC when she clearly bears him a grudge (if you have read The Raven blog about their previous BGT experience)?
