BT vision is changing
Yesterday I got a message to say BT vision is changing in 30 days and that I will lose all my recordings. How the f**k do they expect me to watch 260 recordings before then!!!!!!
How can I stop it updating? If I unplug it from the internet connection - will I be able to watch my recordings? NOT HAPPY!!! |

Darren I know this is a real pain but everybody that is / was running the old firmware / software on their BT Vision+ boxes has too and will be updated to the new version provided they continue with BT. I know all this because I have been through the same process a month or so ago. Infinidim

It will, I believe, give you a temporary respite, but the box will stop working at some stage as, under the software you have, it requires an internet connection and an active BTV account. If you have a DVD recorder, you can record programmes that are on your hard drive, otherwise you will have to watch as a much as you can before you get the software upgrade. Ironically, once you have the new software, you can continue to use the box as an ordinary PVR as I do (I no longer have BT Vision).

How do I transfer the recordings from my BT vision box hard drive to a DVD recorder? |

Actually MJH, if the OP disconnects the box from the internet, it won't be able to access the recordings at all on the WinCE platform. And if there are 260 recordings on the HDD, they must be flipping short ones.

I have disconnected the box from the internet and I have started to watch some stuff - why do you think I won't be able to continue to do this on the WinCE platform? How long do you think I will have to watch the 266 programmes before it stops working. And BTW - I added up how long the recordings are as they are a mixture of films, documentaries and half hour comedies and they add up to 277 hours - why would that surprise you?
And you can use a scart connector to transfer to a content to a DVD. But thats in real time only. |

well I can't explain how I have so many recordings then but I do???
If I have to transfer it in real time then that will take as long as watching it

I'm assuming you will be getting the "new look" BT Vision+ firmware installed on your box and that is why you got this message. There are a couple of reasons why BT Retail are doing this; one is that they are rolling out new channels which are BT TV channels and basically the old firmware/software doesn't support the new features. The other reason is they they have to clear the whole of the disc that is in the BT Vision+ box because the original software was based on a Microsoft product running under Windows CE and the new software comes from a totally different company and they hold the data in the BT Vision box in a slightly different format.
I know this is a real pain but everybody that is / was running the old firmware / software on their BT Vision+ boxes has too and will be updated to the new version provided they continue with BT. How do I transfer the recordings from my BT vision box hard drive to a DVD recorder? To record from the hard drive you connect a scart plug from the Vision box to the DVD recorder. You then play the programme on the Vision box and set record on the DVD recorder. The picture quaility is remarkably good. |

Not true. There were many occasions when I fired up my box on the WinCE platform with no internet connection.

well I deleted 89 of the 266 recordings and am starting to work my way through the other 177. I won't get them all watched in time so when it comes to the update I will unplug it and hopefully get a couple of weeks grace to watch some more before it stops working.
