Yep I like the headline when Apple became Android.

I wonder if Steve Jobs would have went with this design?

Dunno why people are freaking out. I think it looks really nice. Can't wait for it to be released now.

People will complain about anything first they don't do anything so people complain now that they have people complain they have made the effort to improve it and if you don't like it there are other operating systems out there. This will attract new customers and lose some existing customers I reckon. Well done to Apple for revamping the software!

I have a feeling they will lose more customers than they will attract. Today might be the day Apple has fallen once again.

Microsoft are much better at sorting mistakes quick like Windows 8 and the task bar.

Apple are too arrogant and I reckon they will keep going displeasing people until the sales crumble.

I don't think this one was posted yet.

What’s New in iOS 7, the Radical Redesign of Apple’s Mobile Experience

I've had a look at the Apple site and the new iOS7, and to be honest, I think it looks alright. No more boring that iOS is at the moment, and perhaps a bit more refined. Ok, you can't customise it like Android, but I think it looks better than iOS6.

Whilst it looks refreshing on a phone (small screen) Im wondering whether it may actually look a little bland on a tablet ? particularly the 'full sized' iPad ? With iOS 6 the textures add some feeling to the large screen for Apple and the Widgets add some movement to a large screen on Android. Im not sure what iOS 7 is going to give to a larger screen ???

I also see a lot of white text in some areas and dark text in others. How customisable/skinnable is iOS (without jailbreaking) ? or will there be a problem with people wanting very light wallpapers or very dark ones ?

It will also be interesting to see the formal list of what features the iPhone 4s is missing, what the 4 misses further, what the 3S gets (etc) as they always cause an interesting debate.

Im guessing it will polarise users. I'd kind of hoped to see something a little more 'wow' in the spec rather than something that was more focused on 'look and feel' as its great to see Andoid and Apple pushing forward to 'beat' each other - and this ultimately benefits Users on both sides. I really cant see anything in the list so far that cant already be done by Android, Windows, BB etc ..... (again, not a dig, fact).”

I think a major overhaul in the way it looks was the main thing that was required. Then they've added in a few bits which make the functionality more on par with Android (control centre, notification centre acting like a home screen).

To be honest, I personally feel that we've reached a plateau with mobile operating systems on phones. They're very capable now, and any additional specification bumps don't benefit the vast majority of users, just a much smaller subset of powerusers.

In my opinion, the only real technology step that needs major improvement is battery life. There aren't more things that I need a phone to do, that I can't already do with the ones I have.

I think where the growth will be for the next year or so is still in tablets and/or ultrabooks. Whilst phones are now incredibly capable, there are instances where a larger screen and a keyboard are needed for content creation, and that's where tablets/laptops take over.

They will still be used as an USP, I can see 16 core processor coming to Samsung phones soon A better battery would be nice, but the technology is not that far yet.

I thought it looked ok when it was announced. I installed the Beta and went back to iOS6 within 10minutes.

Absolutely terrible. The logos look horrible, iMessage looked cramped and flicking through various menus was very annoying. I won't be in a rush to update to iOS7

Interesting to hear from somebody who has tried it hands on. So is it a lot worse than IOS6?

I think it looks great. Can't comment on its actual performance until it is released in the autumn.

Is it easy enough to go back to iOS6? I've been holding fire on installing as I didn't want to be stuck with it if things didnt work too well. If I can go back then I might give it a go.

I have it installed on my iP5. I think 10 minutes is a bit of an impetuous decision, it takes longer than that to get a proper feel for it.
One thing I don't like is the new lock screen - the clock is just not clear enough. I use my phone as my watch and the new spidery writing is not very legible, particularly in bright light.

I know what you mean about a USP, but as I said, that only makes sense to power users. The wider majority don't know what a processor does, let alone understanding how 16 cores would make a difference. In my opinion, there's a very good reason why Samsung started to sell more Galaxy phones, and it's because a couple of years ago they started to communicate what the phone could do for people in their daily lives ("Life Companion"). That's what Joe Public gets - how they can use a phone to do things (music/cameras/social media/browsing/gaming), tech specs only speak to a small number of early adopters.

I think it looks quite ANDROID /HTC ish. ..... definately a improvement over Previous IOS.

The text and some features for example are very android.

As for the colours - people seem to be looking at the wallpaper! ! - the actual text and OS isnt pink or blue or and other pastel shade.

Yes!. I like the bar at the top with the signal and wireless logo but the actual home screen is horrible. The logo's just don't look very good at all and everything just feels very cramped together.

The settings menu has changed a lot too with notifications and whatnot all moved about. Safari seemed to take twice as long to load webpages as it does on 6.1.2. I mean I installed it because it looked pretty good from the press conference but soon as I used it, I had a strong dislike right away. It almost feels like they've rushed it and didn't want to give it that usual Apple polish.

That 3d effect of moving the phone and the wallpaper behind moving isn't as good as they make out. How this has managed to come out as a Beta is beyond me but so far the reaction from my friends is that it's ugly.

Here's some screen grabs I took before getting rid of it (sorry it's cropped, I uploaded them to Instagram and the originals were deleted when I restored)

@-GONZO- Yup, if you install the Beta, you just have to do a restore or update and it will reinstall iOS 6.1.2 via iTunes.

Predictably there are a lot of people saying this is just playing catch up on Android but there are a number of things on IOS (6&7) which seem an improvement on Android e.g. the control centre i.e. the swipe up to get rapid access to certain settings. I have an HTC One and unless I'm missing something there is nothing comparable. I can swipe down from top right to get to the settings button, but that is no quicker than the existing IOS home button route, and when you get there I find the Android settings layout somewhat higgledy piggledy and more drilling down required to get to where you want than IOS. Even on IOS 6 there are a number of features built right in to the OS which require either customisation or a 3rd party app on Android.

In Android 4.2 and above, a two finger swipe down of the notification bar reveals a quick settings menu. See here.

Yes as Zack06 says you need to be on 4.2

On the Nexus it looks like this...

When you swipe down on the top right of the screen.

I think lots of people get caught up in the specs wars anyway. They heard it from someone or some mag will big it up and it becomes the next thing they need to have even if they can't assess if they really do.

As I said I have an HTC One and am waiting for Android 4.2 update to first go through the HTC system followed by the Three system, this will probably be months yet. Herein lies the problem with Android.

I used to have a Nexus 4 (which I gave away to a good cause) and I really miss the single finger triple tap to enlarge text, but I will also have to wait months to see that again.
