It's only in beta, i am sure there will be various tweaks before final release. Have you tried beta 2?
Have now but the A-Z is still the same. Also, still no fix for the bug where the earbud clicker won't start/stop media files.

I don't mean functionality has been lost. When I said it's too basic I was talking about the look. It looks unfinished, just a plain white screen with pink text on it. Pretty awful really, particularly in light of how nice the iOS 6 Music app looks.

Some of the decisions seem really strange as well. Why put the arist, title and album all on one line? They're never going to fit for longer names. (The new Messages app seems to suffer from this kind of thing too.) It doesn't make good use of the space, in my opinion, and it looks way too simple.

I know this is a beta, but I can't see the fundamental design changing very much really.
I don't really have an issue with the white space. Not sure what other stuff you'd want squeeze into all that white space. I think it could do with so me tweaking though, in the now playing view, maybe by adding a bottom section with icons, as that would be more consistent.

Still, at least they've toned down the pink though!

With the new apps generally, I really like where it's going with the layers.

They've got rid of the horrible grey background for the dock and folder backgrounds. Pretty minor I know, but I'd much prefer it if the folder background was the in the style that you see behind the folder title when you're deleting an app. Basically just like the transparency used in the Yahoo weather app.

Not yet as I've been away from my desk, will try it shortly.
However, what concerns me is how anyone with the slightest bit of common sense could think what they have done with the A-Z is a good idea - it worries me about what other design decisions they are taking and for what reasons.
I thought they'd fixed the A-Z. The letters weren't even lined up straight before. Now they are, although every second letter is represented by a dot.

Isn't that how iOS 6 does it for the 3GS/4/4S?

I notice if you reset the phone, they've toned down the default wallpaper to a far easier on the eye deep space nebula. Month view in calendar still not been fixed though and still doesn't show events.

Not on mine its not. Perhaps its different on the iPhone 5 with the extra screen length

Curious. On my 3GS which is running iOS 5 (not even 6!), the letters take up the full length of the screen and none are represented by dots. This goes for the Music and Contacts app. I swear I've seen the dots somewhere before though.

It's still concerning that in the iOS 7 betas, the list of letters doesn't use the full length of the screen.

Have you changed the default text size? Some things just look weird when using dynamic text scaling. I'm testing on an iPhone 5 and A-Z is in order (no dots) here. But I remember seeing it display with dots under certain circumstances on Beta 1.

The main point of Beta 2 seems to be iPad support.

I'm using an iPhone 4, and with the A-Z there's space for one more letter at the top before the top section and bottom sections. So is pretty much taking up the full length of the majority of the screen used to display any lists.

I might wait for a few more betas before trying it again - beta 1 was good enough but the lag got to me in the end

Same here, the missus was getting fed up with the lag and unfinished bits, so I put 6 back on it (I put it on her iPhone and not mine).

It was a bit of a novelty and I made sure as many people knew about it

Yes, I have changed the text size, perhaps that's it
