Shame the channel is still not on air. It would have been good to see how they handled the evacuation of an area of Fishponds and controlled explosions.

Surly this is what local tv should be all about?

Ofcom have awarded the licence for MAB from September. I wonder how long it will take them to get on air?

edit:
When Ofcom has declared a consortium/organisation successful in its bid to run local TV in a particular area, it usually has something along the lines of the following text in its decision:
Quote:
“When the technical plan of the successful multiplex applicant is confirmed, the start date for these services will be written into their licences. All L-DTPS licence holders must begin broadcasting within two years of licence award otherwise Ofcom may re-advertise the licence.”

The two years is up in September, so that may answer your question

And once Ofcom have granted the licence (which is the stage we're at now), they have to start broadcasting on the date written into it, otherwise they'll get fined (and possibily violate the "must start broadcasting within two years" too, so the licence could get revoked, and harm any future applications by Made TV).

So it will start on the 10th September, because it's not worth the risk for Made TV to try to delay it.

The Mendip website http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=ST564488 says 'from 22nd Sept', perhaps they ought to correct it.

They started advertising for job positions this week which shows they are probably looking to launch soon. September seems likely then. http://www.madeinbristol.tv/#!untitled/c1adf

A very late reply from me, apologies.

The Made in Bristol licence stipulates that they must be on air by no later than 17th September 2014, so they effectively have a 7 day launch window. http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/binari...ol_licence.pdf (page 7, part 4)

So one month to go to launch and things are pretty quiet on the information front.

Have previous local tv services had test transmissions? When did they start? I just thought MiB would want to take advantage of the 3 sept retune.

Looking at the news from local TV in Birmingham perhaps the writing is on the wall.

Notts TV started test transmission on 20/05/2014 and launched 7 days later on 27/05/2014.

7 days before 10/09/2014 happens to be 03/09/2014 so it wouldn't surprise me if Made In Bristol pops up on retune day with the other config changes.

We had a message come up on Freeview last night warning that we will have to do a scan on 03/09/2014 for new services. I would think this must have something to do with the start of the local TV service from Mendip.

No. It's actually a national retune to cover the fact that they are moving Children's channels to the 120s and News channels to the 130s. Everyone across the country is getting that message.

Any start of local tv services from Mendip will be purely coincidental.

Although since it's exactly a week before the expected start date of Made in Bristol, I'd expect that to be added on the same day.

...how very generous of Made in Bristol to give all this free promotion to another person's twitter account on the promo loop. @madeinbristol is nothing to do with the tv station, is a craft based account. @madeinbristoltv is however their account but thats nowhere to be seen on screen.

That promo loop is in itself a pretty good PR video for the Bristol area.
