What are the additional channels that Talktalk provides for their Youview service that BT doesn't ¿

Talktalk's advertisment in todays paper says there is 69 !

I assume these will be chargable.

Have a look here on the Talk Talk web site.

I always take the number of channels with a pinch of salt, look at Freeview where they even include some text channels with the count.

There's also a TalkTalk Help channel and an Engineer's Test channel.

Except for LoveFilm HD, all these channels are SD. But the picture quality is brilliant - somewhere between Freeview SD and Freeview HD.

That is what you can get now in the TalkTalk Player. These will move into the main EPG with the forthcoming software update. My understanding, however, is that there are also entirely new channels coming, some of which will be HD. Does anybody know anything about these?

The Freeview website claims they offer 50 digital TV channels

There are in fact 52 digital TV channels between LCN 1 - LCN 99, so not including the text services or adult channels.

But it's true that not all channels are on-air at the same time!

Does anyone know when the update is due to happen, and will it make these channels recordable?

Apparently August 1st for the update (although Humax boxes tend to be updated before Huawei boxes for some reason, so there might be a short delay). A further update in the Autumn will make the Internet-based channels recordable.

Yes. And BT Sport have just announced their first live game will be Steven Gerrard's testimonial on Saturday 3rd August. And TalkTalk have already stated if they do get the BT Sport channels, they will not be available from launch. Though I've not seen TalkTalk state their date for going live on the EPG. Mind you, neither have BT. But is should be the 1st August.

I don't know why they need channels anyway. i thought that being online, people would be able to watch what they want. That is what I like about services like Netflik and Lovefilm, Just scan through the stuff that is available, select it and watch, not waiting for a time for it to come on.

I laugh when people say I am a Luddite and yet I have gone past the days of being dictated to by broadcasters when I should watch something. it is other people who are stuck in the past.

They should do what Netflik does, do eveything that is Hd in Hd and use a system to downgrade the quality inline with the bandwidth the user have got.

But your stuck with what Netflix has on offer, even the American site is very limited, there really is a far broader spectrum of programmes available even via just Freeview. Just use your PVR to record and watch at will. You really have limited what you can watch so not really a move forward is it.

I have now too. But they didn't state which platform. But I would be amazed it it didn't appear on YouView from BT by 1st August.

Not just American, there are others as well like Canada and Norway. But even without the unblock US, there is still plenty for me to watch, when I want to watch it, not when someone else thinks I should watch it. the majority of the stuff on Freeview is naff, older than some of the stuff on Netflix and worse picture quality. even yesterday when my broadband was playing up, the quality from Netflix was better than most channels on Freeview.

You may be able to record, but you can't record until the day it is on, so you see something on Monday you like to watch, but you still have to wait until Monday.

I thought the whole idea of youview was to have a system where you could choose, seems like it it is not and is just the same as sky apart from the fact that to make use of it you need to have pay either BT or Talk Talk for broadband.

The same as Sky? You really don't half talk some tosh don't you? And your uninformed too. Sad to see, really. You are so centred on what you believe to be right that you are not open to new advancements in new 21st century TV viewing.

Mind you, not having a TV licence, I'm not surprised.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I've seen it in writing from BT that the linear channels will launch on BT YouView on 1st August.

Your talking utter rubbish again, freeview quality is fine both in terms of picture quality and content (you need to look at getting a new TV, yours is old now). Netflix only offer old programmes that have an America bias which is fine if thats all you like to watch. You can watch it when you like but remember its all been broadcast elsewhere before.

What I meant as being the same as sky is that you got linear. channels even via broadband, where I thought that it would have been a pick what you want to watch type of thing.

Oh so I am not open to new advancements in Tv viewing and yet I watch 99% of my video content online and not via a out of date last century digital system. Because how ever you look at it, Freeview is still based on a system that is 16 years old.

Youview is new, buit it don't offer what I want and I certainly would not to stuck with a Isp just to watch the content. Sure you can buy a youview box, but it is pretty limited without paying BT or Talk talk.

I never said I was right or wrong, but then that don't make you right or wrong either. The way I get my video entertainment is different from the way you get yours, for me the way i do it is better for me, I don't watch a awful lot of Tv, I prefer to read or listen to the radio, so Netflix is the ideal way for me to watch what I want to watch without paying out a load of money.

Considering that when Netflix first started in this country I had little interest in it and while I still think that broadband itself is still not up to the job of being the main source of TV for the country, Netflix have done me well since I started using it.
Only a few times have I not been able to watch something because of problems with broadband or Netflix, so pretty good to be honest.
but if I can't watch something, then I read or stick on a DVD, or find some thing else to do, TV don't rule my life like it does to some people.

The youview box itself is not bad, I have seen two in action, can be a bit slow sometimes, but it does what it is suppose to do, but without BT and Talk Talk, giving it away, I doubt there would be many around.

I didn't say I had a public link People are not always able to give links, you'll just have to trust me.

It'll happen on the 1st. BT are starting billing people for those channels from the 1st August.

Nothing wrong with my TV, you are old, but we don't chuck you away.
Content is personal, you may think content is fine, I don't. I seen Freeview on other sets and they are look the same, ok some sets try to hide the faults with digital processing and sometimes it looks worse.
Netflix only offer old programmes that have an America bias which is fine if thats all you like to watch. You can watch it when you like but remember its all been broadcast elsewhere before.
But I like older stuff, there is a lot of older stuff i have not seen yet and there is plenty of British stuff on there for me.

What have you got on Freeview? Oh look big Brother again, watching people in a building, wow that is really interesting, a load of singing and talent contests, and don't forget the Apprentice, so we are can see Alan sugar getting more PR using your TV licence fee and getting cheap labour.

Then we got Dragon Den,, more rich people getting PR and getting things on the cheap.

The problem is, a show is taken too far and then it become boring, because it is the same thing time and time again, look at the weakest link, that show should have ended years ago, Who wants to be a millionaire, and no doubt others.

Sure I can find something to watch on Freeview, and I did when I had Freeview, but only because it was there, not because it was much cop.

Today on Ch4, from 4 until 6.40, you got back to back of Come dine with me. Oh dear.

I am happy with the way i got things at the moment, you stay with paying the BBC, I will do things my way, if it is better is a different thing, but it works for me.

Looking at that list of TalkTalk pay-TV channels, I think I would pay not to have the vast majority of them. Even most of the Freeview channels are such a waste of time that I reduce them to about fifteen with the favourites facility
