I'm not all convinced they are friends again but the new album is out 6th August and this song is reportedly the lead single. It's great (how can it not be? ). I really do hope they have a proper reconciliation.

I found the debut album pretty dull outside of the title track and Poison and Wine, great voices undoubtedly but dull songwriting in my opinion. There were far more interesting folk tinged album released recently.

The behind the scenes video of the recording of the song does nothing to dispel my concerns regarding their future as a duo. Great song, though, with a harder edge and more bitterness than their previous work (probably to be expected given what's happened). One crtically acclaimed album, amazing live act, 3 Grammys, 2 songs on the Hunger Games OST, a supposedly golden future and they fall out spectacularly. Such is life. Shakes head.

I'm not sure whether or not I am looking forward to the album which Joy has said explains what has happened to them.

As far as this track is concerned it is not my favourite performance from them - I prefer a fairly equal weight between the two voices, whereas this is predominately Joy.

Talking of the album, it's being streamed (legally!) here

http://www.theguardian.com/music/mus...s-album-stream

After what has happened I wasn't really looking forward to it but I've been listening to the stream for the last couple of hours and the album is fantastic Definitely a 'harder' edge to it (well, they apparently still can't even bear to talk to each other so hardly unexpected!) but no bad thing in my book. And the recorded version of live favourite Disarm is exquisite. Only criticism I have is John Paul's vocals aren't high enough up in the mix (but when you have imo currently one of the great female vocalists on the album it's not as great a loss as it would be in most other duos). I'm going to buy it.

I've been listening to it for the last couple of days. I think it's great, and I like reading the lyrics while listening. I thought it would be difficult to find the lyrics, being a new record, but I started looking on various sites and got most of them. I then discovered that they are all on The Civil Wars own website!

It must be pretty hard to write and record an album when they're not speaking to each other. How do they do it? How do they agree on what they like and what they don't?

The album is fantastic. I think I might even prefer it to debut...

If the rumours are to be believed that the discord occurred due to John Paul being ultra homesick (added to demands from his missus who to be fair was left at home with 4 kids) then the beautiful Dust To Dust seems very autobiographical. Streaming here

The album was released today and is number 1 on iTunes in the USA and number 6 in the UK.

What a shame they won't be promoting it by touring. It was clear when they blew up with the debut and then won the Grammys that the follow up would be very big but they've sort of thrown it away somewhat by not being able to stand the site of each other anymore lol. The album is superb, though. No idea how they did it. Dust To Dust is one of the most affecting songs I've ever heard.

Looks like this is heading for #1 on the US Billboard albums chart with over 100k sales, no doubt helped by one of their superstar fans. It really is an excellent album. The critics are really going for it as well.
