Problem accesing Virgin from a 3100
Mainstream
13-01-2005
Hi everyone!
I bought a Nokia 3100 from the main company in Spain, and I unlocked it succesfully via IMEI. The problem is that here in the UK I'm a Virgin pay-as-you-go customer, and the mobile detects every network except Virgin and 3. So I have to make my calls from the T-mobile network, which costs me an extra!
Any ideas? Why is this happening? (apart from changing company, that I'do in a while...)

Thanx

P.S.- My advice: don't use Virgin or 3 if you can avoid them! (maybe my phone is intelligent enough to be aware of it...

The reason you are seeing "T-Mobile" on your screen is because Virgin uses T-Mobile's network... you are logged onto Virgin through the T-Mobile network if that makes it any clearer.

So I'm using my mobile as usual but with t-mobile on the screen instead of Virgin??? I hope so....
The thing is that I haven't made any call or sent any message so far, but I'll try it tomorow to see if the costs are still the same.
Thanks a lot for your reply!!

Bye.

I can assure you that although your phone says T-Mobile you are on Virgins network, Virgin is a Virtual Network Operator they do not have their own network infra-structure so they "piggy back" for want of a better word on T-Mobiles network.

Coming back to someones comment about staying away from Virgin i would strongly disagree as 3p texts are good value for money and their customer service is out of this world, how many other telco's can you say that about?

Hmmmm... Their actual charge for a text to other networks is supposed to be 10p, and they charged me 12 p in my actual situation, so it makes me think that maybe t-mobile is not the network I should have on my screen. Well, that, and the fact that with my previous 3310, the usual screen was saying "Virgin". I'm sure you guys are right about Virgin network, but something fails anyway...
Which do u think is the berst deal right now in terms of free txt's and calls?
Thanx a lot for your answers!!!
