To Youview or not to Youview
Guys, some help if you please.
I am currently a BT Vision user and have been for the past half dozen years and whilst I like the service, the upgrade to the new software is wearing my patience thin. Small things like no red button text, sticky menus and performance are all making me seriously consider changing. The question is, should I go for a BT Youview box or stick with the standard offering and hope things improve? I'm out of contract on Vision at the moment but have some 8 months left of my current BT Broadband term so I'm not looking to switch altogether. BT Infinity is due to my exchange in 2nd Quarter of 2014 so that needs to be considered too. Any assistance would be great. Cheers!

I have YouView from TalkTalk and I am very happy with it. There are differences between the two services. The BT box is a Humax with a 500Gb hard disc, whereas the TT is a Huawei with 320Gb, but in terms of actual performance there seems to be very little to choose between them. Both are very good. TalkTalk customers currently have access to much more online content than BT, but that is set to change soon as the BT service gets into its stride. Red button text is very much present, although not yet available on HD channels. That is a Freeview issue, however, not YouView. Some contributors to these forums have complained of the box being slow or having to do more key presses than before in order to call something up - but, from what I have seen, they tend not to be YouView owners. Those people (of whom I am one) frequently voice their approval of the system. I would go for it.

There's been a recent press briefing about future developments for YouView. They seemed confident that there are new content providers coming soon and also mentioned the arrival of IPTV channels this summer. So I think you could be relatively optimistic about YouView...
