It may be crucial in the sense that a really bad one, or one thats less socially acceptable can't win. and an obvious easy ready safe money spinner can regardless. but he's also identifying problems with the contenders. He doesn't always stick with his doubts, and sometimes ignores them, but it doesn't help if there's someone with a similar quality proposal there in the final who has less problems. There's also a need for a show narrative - so we know some reason for the finalists getting there The show is identifying problems with most people, giving Jason a small pat on the back, and praising Neil at the moment. Its really about time some contender emerged to look like his challenger.
