Ill admit im a huge Queen fan love there music. Had everything from Anthems to emotinal songs even disco.
But i have this debate with quite a lot of people when i get told there so over rated there only known for we are the champions and we will rock you.

In my view they made so many more than 2 well known songs another one bites the dust a kinda magic radio ga ga rhapsody etc etc. But in your view is queen over rated or under rated.

Good live performers, that's about it.

Musically, incredibly overrated (imo, of course).

Neither.

They got the credit they deserved for the anthems, technically gifted musicians and the greatest live singer/performer of all time.

Have these 'people' you've debated with never heard of that little unknown song Bohemian Rhapsody?

they're not overrated as they were never rated, they always got a critical mauling. They're overpopular.

This, Roger Taylor said so himself, they were not a 'cool' band

Brian May, is without doubt a good guitarist, but I know some who think he's the best.Far from it for me.
Same as the other members. All good but not the greatest. Subjective I suppose. If someone becomes an obsessive fan, they become blinkered.

At the time maybe, but you couldn't say they haven't been highly rated by a lot of critics retrospectively.

...as in Freddy Mercury and I would agree that they are neither underrated nor overrated but, along with many other bands, they deserve to be highly rated based on their great contribution to popular music.

Odd comparison but it's like Beyonce Musically utter dirge but as a performer amazing incredible. And thats Queens magic for me they have a few good tunes but thats about it. Bt in terms of spectacle and performance there was no one better than Freddie.

What did Beyonce bring to the table?

Queen are an important band in the history of British pop music. They were a great live band and were one of the longest lived of the glam rockers. It is difficult to say how influential they were but they did write a number of classic songs that still get played. I also suspect The Darkness would were influenced by them.

And they'll probably still be mentioned long after most of the modern artists that turn up on DS are forgotten.

They never released a bad single and a few of them were very impressive and memorable. Killer Queen, their 2nd top 10 hit (1974) was particularly good. And I liked all the others. But later I could never take Queen seriously as they confused me. I never knew whether they were being serious musicians (as they started out) or just camp entertainers as FM became more outrageous on stage. Nowadays I don't really care about them..

Queen will always be one of the greatest bands of all time, the late great Freddie Mercury had more talent in his little finger than the likes of teenie girl loving 1D could ever hope for, Brian May mastered the guitar & 1D would probably cry like little girls at breaking a nail on an electric guitar.

How on earth can a band be "over popular"? People either like them or they don't.

I am sure that Queen were incredibly under-rated.... particularly given that they were on a par with the Spice Girls of their day.

Fascinating comparison. I hope you were being ironic.....

Unlike so many of the artists of today, Queen could play instruments and write music. And did so often with a wry sense of humour. Plus one of their songs provided one of the best moments of 'Wayne's World'.

Heck, I'm not even a fan but you can't deny that Queen are a significant British rock band.

Neither really.

Great live, great singles with an all-time classic but patchy albums.
