Which artists, in your opinion, have entirely flaw-free back catalogues. I'm going to say:

Siobhan Donaghy
Lily Allen

Most of the artists I like have at least a few flaws in their discographies. I can't really judge the ones with only a couple of albums as they still have plenty of time to release a dud (which I hope they don't).

This threads disappoints.
Surely you need more than 2 albums to qualify?

Actually I think it's only going to be artists with very few albums that are going to qualify - no artist with a huge discography is going to be completely flawless. Even if someone hasn't made an outright bad album, there are going to be some weaker points.

I think a few people have misunderstood the point of the thread. I am asking you which artists, in your opinion, have perfect discographies, without a single weak song. I'm not saying you have to agree with my choices but you may like to provide some of your own ideas... You know, like you should on a forum.

No artist is without a flawless back catalog. Even the most long-running ones like Mariah Carey and Madonna have had pretty large professional hiccups.

Frank Ocean.

Across the whole of Channel Orange, Nostalgia, Ultra and even his feature appearances on Watch The Throne included, I couldn't identify a single flaw. He truly is one of the best artists around today and one of the few where I agree with the hype surrounding them. There were obviously songs on CO that took a while to grow on me ('Crack Rock', 'Sierra Leone') but they still grew on me nonetheless. Likewise with NU, songs like 'Dust', 'Lovecrimes' and 'American Wedding' took a while for me to appreciate them properly and 'Lovecrime' in particular has become on of my most played Frank Ocean songs now.

I think when looking at artists with substantially bigger discographies, The Prodigy spring to mind but there are obviously songs I don't like as much as others - it doesn't mean they are bad or flawed though.

Also, while I'm not a huge fan of them, I think many would consider Girls Aloud as a suggestion since they've worked with the same producers throughout their career and Xenomania did always give GA their best work which was great pop music. But then actually, the likes of 'See the Day' were naff.

Cat Stevens / Yussef Islam - Never released a bad album, in fact would be hard pushed to think of a really poor track.

Simon and Garfunkel as a duo never released a bad album either, even the 2 live albums released in the last couple of years were good because they showed a time in their carrers

The Pixies output was always sublime

Madness themselves may consider Mad Not Mad a "polished turd" but it was actually a good album of it's era so again they have always released good stuff

Kate Bush almost save for two duds TRS which is good not incredible and 50 Words For Snow a boringly beautiful album but other than that the quality of her work is well flawless.

Not the best thought out thread really because there are few artists who haven't produced some duds from time to time.
U2 have produced many great albums over 30 years but there are tracks on Rattle and Hum and Zooropa which are not great.

Joy Division have two virtually flawless albums - 'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer'.

I've never heard a poor Mary J Blige or Mary Chapin Carpenter track but I don't know every album track.

Amy Winhouse
Despite her short career, she delivered two fantastic albums. Plus she has hundreds of b-sides, demo's and live covers that I have on a few discs and there isn't one i dislike.

Madonna's career since 2008 is a dud. She is desperate now.

Agree about Amy Winehouse...so more could have been achieved

I also agree regarding Amy Winehouse.

An artist like her wouldn't really have any flawed tracks. There may be tracks that people personally dislike but the fact that she showcases her artistry in every song prevents any of them from being flawed in my opinion.

Btw, I don't really include her posthumous album in her discography. They were mostly, if not all, demos so it'd be unfair to include them.

I wouldn't say Britney or Madonna have flawless discographies at all. I knew their names would come up though.

'4 minutes' was extremely weak and do not even get me started on 'Scream & Shout', 'I Wanna Go' and 'Do Somethin''. They are artists who have had great moments at various points in their careers but they are certainly not flawless - looking at it from an objective point of view.

I'm a big fan of Leona Lewis but I can admit that her discgraphy is far from flawless.

Anyone who thinks any artist who has been around for a decent amount of time has a flawless discography is delusional

Either that or they are a mad stalker who can't believe that their favorite may not be perfect. These are the sort of people who have a shrine to their 'hero' in a cupboard under the stairs

And anyone naming artist with only a couple of albums are just being plain stupid.

Carly Rae-Jepsen. Every single song of hers is flawless IMO.

The OP asks which artists have flawless discographies. A discography can be any size. So maybe you should look up the definition of the term before branding other people stupid. Unless you were deliberately being ironic?

My bold. Yes it can but it is a bit pointless discussing the flawlessness of the output form artists who've only realesed two albums. It's hardly a notable achievement putting out two strong albums in a row! Many artists have released half-a-dozen great albums successively, or more, before dropping a patchy one. Besides we don't even know if some of these people will even reach five or six albums.
