I finally took the plunge and put 4.2.2 on my trusty Samsung Galaxy S thanks to Cyangenmod's AOSP ROM. It's now at RC5, so is very stable.
It's very straightforward if you've already got the CWM recovery menu (i.e. if you've previously rooted with CF-Root).
