It's hard to find any solid information on the upcoming console from Microsoft. This is partly down to internet uproar of people against some of Microsofts new imposed policies, and partly down to the poor PR from Microsoft themselves.

So i though it would be a good idea to have a thread on the information we know so far.

The price + Date

The Xbox One has a RRP of £429 and will be launched in the UK sometime in November this year

The Console specs

Killer Instinct is Free, but only has one playable character with additional characters available to purchase over Xbox live.

Licensing

There's a lot of confusion about this so.....

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license

Buy the way you wantódisc or digitalóon the same day: Youíll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly.

Access your entire games library from any Xbox Oneóno discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friendís house, you can play your games.

Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friendís house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.
New Features

Tv support with HDMI (only available in US at launch)
Improved SmartGlass Support
No Ads on home
Improved Voice and motion commands
1000 limit friends list
New improved Achievments-now with 'challenges' http://majornelson.com/2013/06/12/xb...-achievements/
Multitasking with videos and games (snap in-out)
In Game DVR
Twitch intergration
Improved Match making and Rep system with 'Smart Match' http://majornelson.com/2013/06/11/xbox-one-smart-match/
Improved 'rep' system
Now for the bad stuff............

Required internet connection (24 hour verification)
No TV support for UK at launch
Required Kinect(Console will not function if disconnected)
No headset in the box
Console region locked
You can only sell games to someone on your friends list (minimum 30 days)
Trade in can only be done at 'participating retailers'
Ok, Im done for now,If anyone wants to add please do so........

Just a couple of things I've had confirmed after hearing conflicting reports....

If you do not have a broadband connection, you CAN use mobile phone tethering to verify you account.

You do NOT need an Xbox Live Gold account to perform the 24h account verification.

I don't think it's mentioned in the above but XBL Gold accounts are also shared across 360 and X1 so no need to upgrade or pay more. MSP is a thing of the past and will be phased out over the coming year (bad news imo as it always worked out cheaper than it's rivals PSN/Steam).

And it comes with a beautiful controller too.

It has HDMI pass through, the same way it is going to get a TV feed from a cable box (they have only talked in US TV terms). It takes TV image from the hdmi and operates a cable box using an IR blaster on the back, mimicking the remote, if the box does not support direct over hdmi control.

You would still need your 360 on and use the 360 controller but you would be able to multitask between the 360 feed and the xbox one os.

This is exactly what confuses me. What could having the xbox 360 connected to the xbox one possibly improve over just swithing the channel and turning it on? We'll have to wait and see how it works.

I too had a post removed for saying something negative about the Xbox One.

At the end of the day the Xbox One is just creating solutions for problems it's created. The entire device is catered to developers/publishers. It blocks used games so publishers are assured to get a better income on the Xbox, It forces an internet connection so publishers are assured they can use it, it forces the kinect to be plugged in so it assures publishers they can use it. All of the features are there for Microsoft to show devs and pubs that every single Xbox user is the same and the games can cater to every single user to maximise profit.

No advantages for the consumer in that sense though.

Please, can we keep this thread on topic. This is exactly why i said that info is hard to find in the first place.

I will ask the mods to edit out the part of my OP that caused offence.

Killer Instinct Free to play is very interesting. I wonder how many characters available on Launch and how much per character now that they are phasing out points.

On a side note 3 different people have had posts removed from this thread alone. How critical can we be here in general?

Killer Instinct will come with one character (Jago) the full single player and online experience. Additional players can be bought individually or the game can be bought as a whole package for a set price. I personally believe this is the way forward for this genre, instead of one full priced package. How many people use all the characters?

I only got to read one post that was modded and I saw no offense in that personally, you should be able to be as critical as you like so long as nothing is overly personal or baiting others into a reaction. But I think the OP's intent is to try and keep any detailed opinions out of it as it's more of an informative thread.

I wonder will you get the opportunity to try the character first? I don't like the idea of paying for a character I may hate.

Yeah. I'm not sure what the benefit is, other than saving on an HDMI input.

Why not just keep the 360 connected directly, instead of having to power up two separate consoles to use one?

Unless there'll be some additional interface between the two?

It'll be nice for at least something to be plugged in to it until the TV intergration gets patched in. Personally i like the idea of getting game invites and message alerts while i'm watching tv.It will also be good for when i'm waiting for one of my friends to come online.

Perhaps there's a passive pass through meaning you won't have to do that. How about game streaming with TwitchTV, would that not be possible with the 360 plugged in? Being able to use Skype or the internet on the same screen is a perk I suppose.

Personally I hate the idea of game invites and message alerts coming on whilst watching tv (presume it can be turned off?).

When I'm watching tv, I'm watching tv, and when I'm gaming, I'm gaming. My wife would kill me if alerts kept popping up during game of thrones etc!

As for the 360 plugging into the One. Like others have said, I see no use whatsoever for that, you might as well just plug it in directly.

Ps4 is rumoured to be marginally more powerful but you'll find probably little difference in reality I suspect. The developers of say cod are unlikely to put any effort over the minimum they already do to utilise extra power of another platform. Its possible dice might with battlefield but both are said to run 64 player and hopefully also utilise the full map.
Itll come down to first party developers to push the consoles but then you obviously cant compare like for like anyway as they wont be available on other platform.

WHen it comes down to it. They could if wanted make forza 5 or halo run on ps4 (the developers probably do for a laugh) and likewise could make uncharted or killzone for xbox1. You just unfortunately have to go where you feel the games you want to play are or see if there is an alternative to play that is equally as good.

Yeah, I have a couple of young chaps on my friends list who would abuse this by spamming me with invites.

Its not something i would use exclusively, but i can see situations that would benefit me. If im waiting for a game to download for example, i can watch tv and get a notification when its done.I also sometimes play poker online while the football is on in the background, so i can probably see myself playing full house poker while having the football on at the side aswell.
