Looks like the iPlayer will require some age verification if the front of the Express is anything to go by.

The beeb doesn't even really show anything that risky though.

If it does I hope it's nothing to do with the telly licence as I've never actually bothered to get one

Monday will be an important day for the internet in the UK. Every major internet company has been called to a meeting with government on matters of filtering.

Several rights groups have asked to join the meeting, but so far they haven't even received a reply.

Claire Perry MP described any concerns about filtering as "a load of cock," at recent meeting which those rights groups described as highly biased.

The same Claire Perry MP who advocated a licensing regime - whitelisting of the Internet?

Yes, and she will be at the meeting on Monday.

How many kids are watching The Fall on iplayer anyway? Would have thought it'd bore the life out of them.

I wonder what form the age verification would take?

"Username and password" or "I am over 18" prompt.

Type in your passport / driving licence / national ID card number.

Or will it only stream after 9pm?

Can't see the taking the passport/driving license route as its far too much hasstle and would cause data protection controversy, also can't see them only streaming after 9pm route as that goes completely against the whole point of having iPlayer. Presumably we'll just have to sign in or tick a box.

Some of those suggestions were more serious that others. I even slipped in an ID card.

What would be needed was some form of data that the BBC already had like an address and corresponding TV licence number to verify it ...

Don't they already have something which asks you to confirm you are over 16?

More likely the verification would be enter a credit card number in to prove age.

Before someone says what about people that don't have credit cards... I don't know or actually care.

Personally I'm not fussed about age verification possibly going on iPlayer. If they add something and it means I can no longer see something on iPlayer it's not exactly going to be the end of the world.

That has been deemed not good enough.

Just get it from torrents instead like 'thebox', the more difficult content providers make it, the more people will just torrent it because it's quicker, easier and less hassle.

If she honestly thinks that whitelisting wouldn't be abused then she's got a crew loose.

"THE BBC has been told by the Government it must make it harder for children to watch disturbing “murder porn” on their computers."
http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/407...-Ripper-Street

Oh noes, the wicked BBC is pumping evil "murder porn" into the minds of toddlers! Won't somebody please think of the children?!

What hysterical and defamatory drivel!

Meanwhile, Demand 5 gives kids instant access to such innocent delights as Drag Me to Hell and Jeepers Creepers.

Much of press seem to think their own interests won't be caught up in any filtering scheme, but I've seen many things on newspaper websites that would fit well within any definition of adult or gory.

By who? IIRC that was ruled to be the case for actual porn, but nothing else.

Is this the same Daily Express and Channel 5 whose owner also runs Television X?
