Is that quite right? Blunders have always been shown. It is the shouting abuse at each other we see more of, at the expense both of minor task aspects -- designing and printing promotional leaflets, for instance -- and of proper analysis in the boardroom.

Clayton makes the comparison with Masterchef, which celebrates excellence in complex food preparation. I agree, and think most viewers prefer to see things done well. The producers apparently take the view that people like us will watch anyway, so they play up the drama to attract undiscerning viewers.
Maybe I phrased that wrong. I meant, the focus seems to be more on people screwing up, rather than people doing well.

I think in all fairness to the producers, there were a lot of complaints last series that it was too boring and didn't focus enough on entertainment; they listened, and they've changed it so that it does focus more on big entertaining characters - and from what I've seen, this series does seem to be more popular than last year. Personally I would rather have a series like Series 8 (which I did enjoy - didn't understand all the negativity around it) but I understand that I'm not representative of the whole audience, so fair play to them, I say. They've listened to what the viewers want.

Just thought I'd say thank you for introducing me to monkseal's Apprentice blogs - I haven't laughed so much in ages! The screencaps are just fantastic and the savage running jokes about the contestants are very funny indeed - my favourites are Howard, King of the Mer-People, Kimberleypuff the Disney cast member, and Laura the Space Cadet.
