Is it X Factor, The Voice or still Idol ??

It is just an actual question, I was wondering which franchise is now the most successful in the current market.

Successfull in terms of what:
- sales by acts launched by them?
- viewing figures?
- strengh of the franchise (number of countries/networks having bought the right to that show)?

They all have success, just in different countries. I don't know about most other countries but as far as I know it's

UK
1. X Factor
2. The Voice

USA
1. American Idol
2. The Voice
3. X Factor

Australia
1. The Voice
2. X Factor

X Factor is still the most successful in terms of international popularity. But the single most successful version is far and away American Idol.

The Voice is the most successful format around the world of the last few years. XFactor is the least successful overall because it has been in the fewest number of countries out of all three shows, and in many of the countries it was shown in like France, it got cancelled.

In terms of format and occurences all raound the world, the Voice seems to be smashing it! It's doing good in the rating department in most countries from what I hear.

But in terms of carrier launched, The voice doesn't seem to have been that effective from what I heard... But it's the newest format.
Idol has lauched many carriers, and so has X factor (not talking about longevity here, but both have had contestants selling many reccords after their appearance on those programs)...

Actually, The X Factor is the biggest music talent competition in the world. It's the biggest franchise out of talent show's too. It has the most versions around the world, and I think (give or take) has the biggest figures (Started to dip in the recent years). As a show on it's own, not a franchise, then American Idol.

^ No the statistics show that the Voice is currently the biggest talent competition in the world. It's airing in more countries than XFactor and in almost all countries it is more popular than XFactor. Only really in the UK and denmark is the XF more popular than the Voice, all other countries prefer the voice.

Basically this.

No franchise will ever be able to match the combined success of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Idol should count their lucky stars that those two have been so successful and that they've been able to obtain longevity.

I don't believe that table at all, Big Brother is in way more than 2 countries

Off the top of my head: UK, US, France, Canada, Africa, Brazil and Australia.

ANyway, in regards to the OP, the biggest is obvious when you think about it: Eurovision.

The only one on a big network is The Voice, the rest are on much smaller cable channels to my knowledge. And it's still relatively new & hasn't produced a star yet to my knowledge...

"Star academy" used to be the big one in France, but our love for such programs has dramaticaly declined, and it's on a cable channel with cable channels ratings I suppose... "Pop star" was also big but didn't last that many seasons (2 or 3?) on M6, is it back? Same with "Nouvelle Star", it was huge for a couple of seasons but dipped both in talent and ratings after Christophe Willem... I don't think either are back on M6 anyway, probably on W9 (or some small channel like that).

France is not the best example for singing talent shows, they have been struggling for years in the ratings department (apart from the Voice I think).

The Voice. In China, the show is constantly attracting 120 million TV viewers and 400 million internet users

1D have sold around 9 million albums worldwide I think, Leona has sold over 20 million. Kelly has sold 20 million so far, Carrie has sold about 15 million. So close but not quite. And we're not including all the other Idol winners that have sold millions of records - Phillip Phillips, Scotty, McCreery, David Cook, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia etc... But UK X Factor has certainly done extremely well in creating huge global stars.

I'd guess The Voice at the moment, it's in the early burst period where everyone is buying it and it's generally doing well (better than in the UK!). Although Got Talent is still bigger I think - maybe Dancing With The Stars too, those shows don't really have such direct rivals as the 3 singing shows.

On the TV side it can just come down to how you measure it. How many territories it has been sold into or how many markets? Sometimes one version airs in multiple countries. Do you give extra weight to bigger markets? Is it done by ratings? X Factor airs in Germany but on a smaller channel where it gets nowhere near the ratings of Talent or The Voice.

On the music side, it's probably more clear cut. X Factor (specifically the UK version) seems to be churning out acts who are not only successful at home but are making inroads into other markets. And of course, there's One Direction.

Idol will always have Kelly and to a lesser extent Carrie. Although it does highlight that they've not done well enough in the past 8 years.

Idol: I don't follow it, but there are quite a few people who got a decent career after Idol.
I thought Adam Lambert was doing well enough... Not that I know the numbers, but I read that his second album went #1 in the US and sold enough outside the US to warrant some sort of world tour.
Daughtry did quite well also in the US I thought (for a time at least).
Jenifer Hudson comes from AI too I think...

X factor: currently 1D, to a lesser extend Cher LLoyd, LM & Olly Murs, and Leona Lewis did extremely well at one point, plus all of the singers doing well enough (for a time at least) in the UK like JLS, Alexandra Burke...

Basically: the voice get good ratings & is the new big talent show in the world right now, but maybe because it's relatively new, there is no big success story yet to my knowledge.
