Unltd Data Question
Why do the likes of o2 and vodafone not offer truly unlimited internet? is it a case of trying to make extra cash from people or their network not being able to cope?
Some of the allowances are quite frankly laughable Im interested in peoples opinion |

Not sure anyone allows truly unlimited internet. Not really good business sense to allow it either as it would mean a minority of people sucking up all the bandwidth.

I'm unlimited on three, and have stress tested it with torrents/videos/podcasts/games. So yes it exists.

I pay £20 for 6 months "unlimited" internet with T-Mobile. But that's a lie, as once you reach their fair use policy limit, you can't stream videos or download anything (supposedly, I've not attempted to do either yet). I've just had a text through saying I've reached it, but I've done nothing different or used the internet more than I usually do, and I've never reached it before.

T-Mobile have always seemed to advertise it as "Always Browse and Email" or "6 month internet access" rather than outright 'unlimited' - assuming you mean the £20 - 6 month internet boosters.I think the allowance is now 1GB a month for downloads and streaming on the £20 '6monthweb' booster Quote:
This Booster comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month. We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use internet on your phone, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much.
Which at £20 for 6 months, works out at £3.33 a month for 1GB of Streaming / Download per month and unlimited normal browsing. Not the first choice if you want to watch films on your phone, but still a hell of a lot better than most networks out there. Personally I don't think T-Mobile will ever offer a decent unlimited 3G deal, they are far too involved with 4G now, as are Orange. |

Ditto.
As for why vodafone and o2 do not offer, they didn't invest in their network, rather then with lame deals like iphone exclusive, their networks would fail if they offered unlimited data. |

Try using 5-10GB on it, you'll soon notice it isn't unlimited.

Will they? The say they won't if you don't tether or download stuff to transfer to a laptop?
I've read on their forums as I am a giffgaff customer too, and people have been warned and banned for using too much data (streaming etc...) |

When did you last read their downloading rules? The last one i read it said streaming was ok. If someone uses torrents it's a pretty good bet the file is getting transferred to a PC.

This is from their illegitimate usage policy
Having tested a number of devices and applications, we think that any usage over 1GB/hour may be indicative of illegitimate usage. This indicator is used to supplement other indicators, so we will never warn or bar you if this is the only rule you break. Using a significant amount of data for a long period of time (i.e. we’d expect someone to sleep at some stage within a 24 hour period). |

Zee, their policy changed recently.
However i wouldn't be surprised if they were still banning people. they used to do it in the past a lot. |

I guess because giffgaff has such a low user base, there is more control of how much data customers are using
