Of course she looks black! Her nose is black, her lips are black, she's got weave etc. How does she not look black? I've read that she's half black but she 100% looks fully black. It's just her skin lightening and pale make up that confuses some people.

Read my post below yours.

Not all black people have really dark skin - do people not know this?

Why should people have to say something positive?
What's wrong with mentioning somebody's colour of skin but being completely benign about it?

It was a fair question I thought. If Jemima is happy to state she doesn't want to date black men she should be happy to give her reasons why, if asked. ie....

Person A - I'd eat an apple but I wouldn't eat an orange
Person B - What's wrong with oranges ?

You are allowed preferences. It is not polite to assume that you can dictate other peoples' preferences, and becomes rather toxic when this involves telling someone from a historically downtrodden group that they may have no preference for anyone from the historically high-status group.

I don't know but my hunch is that it was a far more innocent remark than Gina calling Jemima a 'racist bitch'.

It's obvious she means very dark skinned black”

Its offensive!!

Jemima was trying to backtrack, when she mentioned Daley! she knew she had gone too far.

She actually said NOT BLACK MEN! in a nasty way.

It was deliberate to get at Gina, as she already told all the HMs in the kitchen she was gona get Gina.

When did I say she HAD to say something positive? I was merely trying to help you understand what I meant by negative Absolutely no need to jump down my throat because you want an argument.

Also, Jemima does see people as a race lol! She excludes men based on their colour! I never do that - I don't see people as a race, I see them as people.”

Why do you think she was speaking of race when she was speaking specifically about colour?

What she was describing to Gina appeared to be entirely about colour and not about race.
She said that her type is Mediterranean men, or that shade, like Dan is, and then tried to describe a skin colour as there wasn't a handy colour chart at hand.
She spoke of lighter and darker shades.

She said that she found Daley attractive, but he is attached.
Daley is not dark black, but is mixed race. But surely if she was racist wouldn't she have found Daley unattractive too?
Daley would be described as black in regards to somebody speaking about him in racial terms, but it appeared to me that Jemima was talking purely about skin colour, not race.

Just before you say that Daley isn't black, he's mixed race, consider that you've just described Gina as being black. When in fact she is just like Daley and is mixed race too. Gina is half Jamaican and half Cuban.

No I didn't. I said she looked fully black. She doesn't look mixed AT ALL.

The OP poses an unexpectedly interesting question. Jemima was of course talking to Michael not Gina, but knew that Gina was listening. I don't think many people would state that they wouldn't date a black man, a) to someone they barely knew; and b) in the presence of a black woman. And when Gina asked "Why wouldn't you date a black man" it really was time to extricate herself gracefully from a possible hole, not to dig it 1000 times deeper by suggesting that of course a black woman would never (should never?) date a white man.

1. She dislikes Gina and said what she knew would piss her off; or

2. She genuinely does believe, in spite of being 41, that black people always date black people and white people date white (or 'dark' white) people; or

3. She was being a tiny bit Emily, and trying to sound rather cool and edgy and "let's be brave about this and say the kind of thing that most people wouldn't say".”

Hi Wonkey Donkey. Nice to see you talking sense like always!

You are wrong. If Jemima was talking ENTIRELY about colour then why did she mention she'd go for mixed race men like Daley? "Mixed race" is referring to race, not colour. Mixed race men as regarded differently to fully black men as they have whiter features hence why Jemima wouldn't find them unattractive. Daley would be described as black solely by people who stick by the one drop rule, to others he is regarded as mixed race.
